Oncotype DX?

Mine was not automatically ordered.  In fact, I had no idea about the test until I met with the MO which was about a month after my surgery.  We discussed whether or not I was opposed to chemo if the results came back recommending it.  He said that if I was totally opposed to chemo, there was no sense in running the oncotype test.  It took about ten days after that for the results to come back, because the tumor sample has to be physically sent to the lab in the central California area.  Then we met again to find out the results. I had never heard of the test until my ONC requested it. She was on the fence about treatment because the Path report showed a micromet in my SN. My BS said automatic chemo. Thankfully my ONC disagreed - thus the test. She also said women with BC had been over treated for years so the test was a good tool. It is pricey but Genomic Labs who performs the test will work with you. Luckily for me BCBS paid for the test. It was 5k 3 years ago so have no clue what it costs now. Still it's worth it. My score came back 11. Took about 2 weeks to get the results. I had 33 Rads treatments instead. Good luck.

My MO told the lab to call me regarding insurance payment of the test. First call I got was last Friday while I was going in to get my bone scan and I understood her to say it wasn't covered but I couldn't stay on the line so I told her to call back. Got a call back on Monday and she said it was covered and my co-insurance would be $800 but they have a very generous assistance program. She asked me how many people reside in my home and if I made less than a certain amount, then she told me I qualified for 100% assistance to pay for it.

Do you know your Invasive component Her2 status yet? Oncotype Dx is not performed on Her2+ samples, so until you have that info your onc is unlikely to order the test

please make sure you ask for a written copy of your pathology report. It will help later on as you learn more.
