Possible Fibroadenoma
Hello all-
Just looking for some support while I wait. Last Monday I had my GP do a breast exam because I found a lump around March, but couldn't get in to see her until then. She felt the lump and told me not to worry- it was probably a cyst. I should mention I am 32 and only history of breast cancer in the family is my father's grandmother.
She ordered an ultrasound and mammogram for me that Thursday and assured me not to worry. I was a mess anyways. My dad passed away from cancer 7 years ago close to this date, although we believe it was environmental due to him spraying fields with chemicals his whole life.
Anyways, mammo was first and was clear and I cried from joy. Ultrasound was second and I was instantly worried because I could see the mass was dense and not hollow. The radiologist pulled me into his office and said it was probably a fibroadenoma, but I went into shock panic mode and couldn't even hear him. All I could think about was my dad.
He ordered a biopsy for me, which was done earlier today. My GP explained to me that this radiologist is "over reactive" with any mass, and it was rated a category 4 for this reason only. Today he told me he was 99% sure it was a fibroadenoma. Part of me is very glad he is thorough... Another part makes me wish he would've just sent me on my way and said let's look at it in six months.
So here I am... Waiting. I don't really know what I'm asking for. Just support from someone who's been in a similar situation. The waiting is truly the hardest part. And I know 99% sounds awesome, but he is also only human.
Thanks for listening.

Hi, Jones812. I can completely understand what you are saying. My own dad was diagnosed at Stage IV liver cancer this time 14 years ago, and my mom with lung cancer this time 2 years ago. It's hard not to get freaked out when "something" is seen, and you know too much about cancer.
Most biopsies do turn out benign, though. 99% does sound awesome. While you wait for results, try to find a good book, work in the yard, anything to keep your mind from running circles around all the "what ifs".

Thanks so much for your reply, Laura. Day one of the wait... Here's hoping I get news soon.
Thanks again for your support and advice- I am definitely trying to keep busy.

Day Four. I officially feel like I'm coming unglued. Woke up in a total panic. This wait is awful.

Jones812, I know how you feel. But you can, and will, get through this. Find anything to keep your mind occupied. Waiting is awful, however, it honestly won't take forever, even though it feels like it will.

Laura,
Are you going to go with the six month wait? OR DO you think you can a surgeon to take out the lump? I'm back again because I'M NOW waiting to have my biopsied fat necrosis lumps taken out and then I can start breathing again

Thank you, Laura. I'm so glad I found this place. The one place I can say I'm falling apart.

Since the dimple has now been here for 2 months, my mom wants me to keep pushing for an answer. I was going through the state screening program, since my co-pays would be insane otherwise. But I am seriously thinking about going through my family doctor and my regular insurance.
Yes, Jones812. This is the only place I feel comfortable saying I'm worried. We will get through this.

I agree with you I'm waiting on my core needle biopsy test next week. I'm only 28 and have three solid masses two of which they are doing biopsy on. Like you said only human to worry! I hope everything turns out good for you!
