Direction of the Mastectomy Incision - Horizontal or Vertical?

I've recently seen a couple of plastic surgeons for consultations, one does a vertical incision and the other does a horizontal incision. Is there a reason one may be better than the other? Any idea why most surgeons tend to do a horizontal incision?

Mine are diagonal. It may just come down to preference & which type of incision they've had the most success with. If you are not having reconstruction, you want the surgeon to leave you completely flat.

my uni mx scar is horizontal from armpit over and he left a little bump at the cleavage so when I look down, it looks like I still have a little cleavage. I like that is is low enough I don't have to stick to just turtlenecks. I wear a foob when I go out. I'm not doing reconstruction as I am a crappy patient with no patience..

Mine are horizontal - I didn't think about having a choice in the matter!  I had three surgeries through the same line - the cancer mastectomy, tissue expander placement, and finally the exchange for implants.
