Pneumonia during chemo

hi all, I am on dose dense AC-T. Got a cold before my second AC. After the cold, I developed a bad cough that lasted for weeks. The doctor ordered a X-ray and said I have mild pneumonia. The doctor gave me some oral antibiotics and sent me home.

Has anyone else had pneumonia during chemo? Any advice or sharing of experience is greatly appreciated!

Hi Lemonadehk, I developed pneumonia while on AC. I didn't have a cold. Just started a having a temp one day with a heavy feeling in my chest and a mild cough. I thought it was just another symptom of the AC (there are so many!). Actually went in for my chemo that day and the nurse said I felt warm and took my temp. It turned out to be 103. My doctor put me on a drip to hydrate me, checked my blood counts and sent me down for a chest x-ray. The x-ray showed pneumonia and the blood counts were so low that I needed a transfusion. After the transfusion I was sent home with an oral antibiotic. I don't recall the name of it but I took one pill a day for seven days. Did the job. I only ended up missing one chemo treatment and was back on schedule the next week. Good luck to you!
