Hard time waiting like everyone else...

Hi all! I'm relatively new to the boards and have been reading up while I wait. I moved to a new state and was going for some follow-up tests for different issues to get myself caught up. I had a screening mammo done because my sister was diagnosed with HER2+ stage 3, grade 3 bc at 37. I really wasn't expecting anything because her BRCA tests were negative, but we have a really high incidence of cancer in my family. Both parents (lost my mom 2 years ago ,when she was 49, to malignant melanoma), my sister, and 3 of my 4 grandparents.
I got a call back to do the diagnostic mammo. While I was still in the dressing room, the radiologist and a nurse came in to sit down and talk. They explained that they saw two separate areas of concern. One area was a linear grouping of microcalcifications and the other was a tubular structure. He categorized it BI-RADS 4b. I was in such a state of shock that I had to have them repeat it, so I understood well enough to repeat what they said to my husband. They were both great and the nurse was rubbing my back. They said they were sending me to a breast surgeon at our local cancer center (which I'm SO thankful for because I had very limited healthcare where I used to live) and gave me some info. about the breast center.
I met with the breast surgeon's P.A. that Friday. She brought up my images and said it's definitely odd to see a thirty year old come in with these results. She said the linear grouping is what they're interested in biopsying and to watch the second tubular structure. She said the breast surgeon would like me to have a breast MRI first to see if there are any other areas that the mammograms missed because of my family history and the different groupings. She was great stepping up to talk to my insurance company to have it approved, since they usually do MRI after biopsy. I had the test done Wednesday morning. I was hoping the results would be posted to the patient portal like other tests, but I got restless and called to ask. She said they won't post them until I have my meeting with the breast surgeon next Thursday. I really don't want to wait until next week
So just like everyone else...the days are dragging by. I'm really putting a lot of effort into staying positive, focused, and busy, but I'm not doing so hot with it right now. I'm anxious to hear the results and then get the biopsy done, so I know what's going on. I'm 30, a stay-at-home/homeschooling mom to 6, and grieving the 2 year anniversary of my mom's passing tomorrow. It breaks my heart to see my sister suffering and fighting and don't want my family to have to see any more. They also found a 1.5cm x 1cm x 1 cm suspicious nodule in my neck that is getting biopsied in a week and a half. Thanks for listening and being here when it feels like there's no place else to go.

Hugs and prayers, Pistolmama. You can get through this. If you were near me, I'd take you to the mani/pedi I've got scheduled to try to get out of my head tomorrow.
-
Thanks, Laura_E! Mani/pedi's sound nice. Have fun! I hope it helps keep your mind off things even for a little bit. Tomorrow we're having a memorial BBQ at our home for my mom. Hoping that keeps me busy enough through the weekend. Called the breast surgeon's office and they were happy to move my appointment up to Monday morning.
-
Glad you were able to move up your appointment to Monday morning, PistolMama. I hope your BBQ goes well and that you hear some good news on Monday.
-
Thank you ElaineTherese! Thinking this BBQ and a Harley ride on Sunday should help pass the time
-
We are taking the bike out tomorrow, too!! I guess great minds really do think alike!!

Had my follow-up today. Nothing extra showed up on the MRI, so that's good. I go in this Wednesday for my stereotactic core needle biopsy. I get the results on the 13th. The smaller area with a cluster of calcifications are being put on watch and I'll follow up in 6 months to see if there are any changes. Keeping my fingers crossed!
-
Pistolmama- the waiting is the worst. Glad the MRI didn't add anything new to your basket of worries. The best thing is to try to find anything else to do in the meantime. Anything. You can't help, yourself by researching on Dr. Google. Please don't do that. Get on that Harley instead. Post here. I will be thinking of you and sending good mojo your way
-
Thank you Katy! That's exactly what I'm going to try to do. I'll hang around and keep busy to help the next 9 days fly by (hopefully!).
-
Had my biopsy yesterday. It really wasn't too bad. I'm more tired than I am sore. Trying to take it easy and hope the next 6 days fly by.
-
Waiting along with you, dear. You are doing great! Keep hanging in there!
Hugs (gentle ones)

Pistol, hope you're hanging in there. Do try to ice your biopsy site from time to time; it does help.
I'm sorry about your mom; I know how tough those anniversaries can be. And Mother's Day is hard, too. I know your little ones will brighten yours, however, and I hope that helps.

Pistol- What Hopeful said.

Results are in...and they're b9! Adenosis and vascular calcifications. I have a different area of concern that we'll re-visit in 6 months. They also put me in the high risk program. I'll be meeting with the breast surgeon and having a 3-D mammo every year from now on. Such a huge weight lifted! Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and prayers. I plan on sticking around the boards to help others and be here for whatever my future may hold. Hugs!!!

Yay, PistolMama! Good news!
