Anyone else start having issues young?

Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone else had experiences with benign conditions at a young age? I was 12 (I'm 25 now) when I found a lump in my left breast that turned out to be a fibroadenoma and a bunch of cysts. I barely had breasts at this point, but they were already an issue.

This diagnosis involved having about half a dozen (if not more, probably not but at the time it felt like it) people poke and prod at my developing body, reassure me it was probably nothing, but passed me onto the next doctor with concern. It was a scary day.

I feel like having all that happen at such a young and vulnerable time has had a lasting effect on me. Anyone else feel that way or have similar experiences?

I've had issues from a young age also. Started with fibrocystic breasts and then endometriosis (undiagnosed) but my mom had it and I've had the same issues. It runs in my family so it's expected, yet scary.

I'm 16 and I had a fibroadenoma this past October. It is definitely scary, and you were younger and you're older now, which means I won't get over it.

I agree it is scary. I was told my issues stem from how my breast plate is made. I'm 26 and within the last two years the problems have been coming up more.

I had a fibroadenoma at age 23. (I'm now 61.) I developed breast cancer at age 59. In my case, they told me that I was a high risk person due to the fibroadenoma, so I had frequent mammograms, usually every year. I had another fibroadenoma at age 46. Many times I needed extra pictures during the mammogram due to dense breasts. They did extra x-rays when they did a needle guided biopsy at age 46. I wonder how much all the x-rays contributed to my eventually developing cancer - or if it was just in the cards, and nothing I would do would change that destiny. I also wonder if I had checked my vitamin D levels and optimized them, and whether I had checked my iodine levels - if things would have been different.

I likely had problems in my 20's and early 30's but know more now than I knew then. I regret that I didn't pay more attention to estrogen dominant issues and what it may mean for my breast health. Perhaps the schools should be education young men and women about what to look out for in addition to all the other health curriculum that gets taught. I am trying to improve my breast health as I hit perimenopause but I don't know if it will be too late to prevent breast cancer in my future.

my advice would be to possibly go see a naturopath or a breast/woman's health specialist who deals with estrogen dominant issues and see if they have some suggestions for you in terms of not making this worse as you get older. Cysts and fibroadenomas are indicative of estrogen dominance.
