Thanks Rose,
The site is very informative and helpful.
Ahh-you are such an expert in all facets and I really appreciate your help! -

laying in the hand sanitizer and got some alcohol to clean the keyboards (okay, i have to do it, a contol freak here)
the keys are just gross!
I know this is off topic, but I have read an article that said that keyboards carry at least as many germs as toilet seats. At least occasionally we clean our toilet seats, but we never clean our keyboards.
This isn't the right article, but it points at keyboards in hospitals....

So, like your mom said, wash your hands before eating or preparing food! -
I heard on the radio that your steering wheel is a germ center as well.
I share my car with teenagers, and sometimes the wheel is sticky, so I know it's filthy. I have some clorex wipes I leave rolling around in the back seat. -
Well, I read a report that said drinking fountains carry more germs than toilet seats! Because the water sits around on the fountain, germs are kept alive waiting for you to need a drink!
-
When I was expecting the son that just turned 18 they had a thing about lead in drinking fountains. They replaced many fountains in the buildings I've worked in, but I never went back to them. Sounds like that's a good thing.

i have been thinking about my movement and how important core strength is...
it has taken two years for me to learn to live within the confines of healing muscles...
diet is so important for both healing and avoiding infection...
it is hard when you have never thought of any activity as something that can hurt your body...
but it can happen.
denise, vacuuming and taking wet clothes out of the washer and putting them in the dryer still hurt...
i am so kind and gentle to my body now to stay feeling good.......amazingly...
life goes on, everything gets done...
maybe slower, defintitely more mindful...
be kind to your body, it is not the same... -
i started doing exercise on a yoga ball for great core strength...
hope everyone is well and enjoying their weekend!
i clean my steering wheel daily and i am the only one driving the car!
one thing about chemo, i will always be freakish about germs and immune systems now! -
Did you know that the muscle they use when they do a TRAM flap is not considered a core muscle because it runs vertically?
The article I read, which was talking about that muscle in entirely another context, mentioned that only wrap-around muscles are core muscles.
I am on a shoulder straightening binge. Every time I go to Yoga and we lie on our backs in relaxation she comes along and pulls my shoulders back. I feel very odd because my implants are sticking right up there, while everybody else's breasts are acting like bowls of jello.
I hope that I'm not developing a permanent slump. -
sitting up straight as i read your post rose...
i am going to visit my son tomorrow and am absolutely thrilled...i miss him and need a boy fix...
after we go shopping and lunch and catch up i am sure i well be over it...lol...
my diet is in the toilet still, when i am out of the house...
good intentions, but the need to get a feel good fix.
i have been wheat grassing and juicing though as i am fighting a flu, i have been beating it for a week and hope it goes AWAY this time...
each morning, i clean every machine with alcohol at work and have almost my own "station" now...:)
implants...
in southern cal i love them, not only do i have the teen ager body to go with them but boob jobs are the norm here...
i bet people wonder when i am going to get a facelift..
not for the time being...no more surgery!
i would never get a boob job or any elective surgery...
but hey i am a survivor...
can't stand the pink ribbon thing, dreading october!
ginger, rose, denise, kari, cowgirl, rosemary and all my sisters here, you rock the house, the new season and the new house as far as karilynn goes!
happy trails this autumn,
laura
p.s. i cancelled my pet scan, no time off, and tumor markers really shown no need, nor does my body...but i will do it before the end of the year...
too busy to start any treatment anyway...:)))))
survivor done! -
I'm glad you've been able to clean up one little part of Macy's furniture place! May many sales gravitate there.
It's a busy weekend. I've got a resturant meal and then a party. So I'm starting off easy, planning some exercise, and committed to not beating myself up about it all.
However - wheatgrass is out for me! -
Laura,
Hope you enjoy your time with your son--it's special. My musician son leaves today and it's always sad. While he's here though I find myself doing more for meals than I do for dh....so I have to watch the intake. It's not usually a time I get in more exercise either. He's one who doesn't like eating out so that helps some.
Getting a bug isn't a nice reward for a store-germ-cleanup-person. Hope you're on the mend.
Wheatgrass???? -
-
I just checked your site reference, Rose, and it looks good. There's a professional section there that I'm going to see if dh is interested in for some of his patients. I noticed the partnership with the University of Rochester...
You always have good sites and cites!!! -
Wheatgrass???
I am lucky I like it as it is like eating all your green vegetables for the day in one swoop.
They juice the grass right there...
It is a very much acquired taste and I am lucky, it tastes okay to me...
I guess it is all that sour grass I sucked on as a kid!
However, all my supplements did not stop me from getting the worst head cold I can remember...Even earache!
Saw my son yesterday instead of friday, he is dong great!
I just love my boy more than anything and now that we don't live together, I am a little mushy...
Boyfriend is in Germany as of Sunday and I have just been sleeping and nursing myself and keeping the house sterile!
Went to work today and boss said, jokingly, you can't have that many days off in a row...
that would be two days...
and we got a truck of furniture delivered, I and the clerical, Veronica, this wonderful girl, ( she wears my pre chem shoe size, and i have given her all my old darling shoes)
anyway...unloaded furniture all day...
crap! had to take a muscle relaxer and an hour of massage after work!
rose - enjoy good food with good times and just double up on the exercise! I am with you, don't beat yourself up...
we got to get a plan for the holiday season...
a guilt free one!
to the thread of Theresa I was so happy that Kelly carried her name on the Susan Komen Walk in Newport Beach!...
Rose, I will be there next year for your DC walk, i promise.
Love you Theresa Pastore Wilson
forEVER! -
Walking???
it is the very best, it gets your blood circulating which means the lymph system is getting cleared...
love to walk, anywhere!
i say steptember alllllyear! -
happy birthday rose!
eom
i am not talking to myself -
I hope that furniture is just flying out the door - and commissions into your pocket!
I was terrible in NYC. So much resturant eating. The shining spot was lentil soup at the Guggheim (sp?), otherwise the low-fat plan was pretty bad. When I started going for beef fillets over salmon pasta I knew I was in trouble. -
yummm a whole new meaning to surf and turf, beef fillets over salmon pasta.
i hope you had beautiful weather in the city rose and walked to your hearts content!
life goes on here, diet is in the toilet when i walk through restaurant doors...
life is to short and i love good food! -
Well, if you wander into Applebee's you can try one of their new WW meals. I've had 2 recently; both were tasty but I was hungry soon after. The Grilled Shrimp Salad at least took a while to eat so I wasn't sitting around while everyone else was still eating!
I'm glad a restaurant is showing support for weight loss by creating meals that are low calorie and low fat. -
I like Applebee's.
Overall I think more mainstream resturants are trying to get on the lower-fat bandwagon.
It seems less frequent when a more upscale place has something they'll post the nutrition facts on. -
Ruby Tuesday's also has a number of items that it lists the calories/fat/fiber on.
-
i like applebees too...mcdonalds has a picture of apple slices up at the mall...
too funny... -
Laura - mall rat....
Do they have a Mrs. Fields? -
Hello everyone,
I found thihs sugar substitute in a nutrition book it's called sweet leaf stevia, 0 calories all natural it comes from a shrub in Paraguay. It is full of fiber and supports liver, and digestive function. info at www.sweetleaf.com
I stopped using sugar, eat only fruites vegs and litle white meats since dx. I have cheated the last few days due to weight loss. If you dont mind Im very interested in new ideas and hopefully can add some of my own.
I did get a cheep steamer and I steam fresh brocollie, and greens at least 4 times a week which makes eating the stuff eaiser when your mouth hurts from chemo stuff.
Anyhow hope I can join in
Myrna -
Hi Everyone,
Im looking for some good ideas with diets too do you mind if I join in? I have stopped suger and been on a fruits and veg little white meat diet since dx.
myrna -
I wonder how many people buy McD's apple slices? That little fruit thing I thought was rather expensive--just buy an apple.
-
Hello I have been on no suger, veg and fruits little white meat since dx I would love to join in if thats ok
myrna -
Welcome Myrna-we can always use input! I bought Stevia several months ago, but got discouraged at how often I had to stir it. I think next time I will buy the liquid. The instructions say to add to hot water, stir, add tea bag, stir, stir, stir, sip-stir, sip-stir. Heck-it sure must have lots of fiber.
Anyway guys_--although I have the "WW at home kit", that I bought 2 years ago, I finally gave up and joined a WW meeting today. The $12 per week will hurt, but nothing else is working. I am down 6 pounds, but not budging since.
I was going to pay the monthly fee so that I can use the "E-tools" that come with the membership, but since I am having surgery the end of Nov, I won't be able to attend a couple of the meetings.
But I really want to lose 10 pounds so that I can get a blue ribbon and a star for my forehead .
BTW-I am celebrating-Oct. 1 was my 2 year anniversary for my remission of liver mets.
AND I just found out today that my latest tumor marker test-my CA27-29 was "less than 15"!!!!! Normal is 38 and below!!! I am always afraid of my liver mets returning, and to be "less than 15" is sure a good sign that I will be around for a few more years to enjoy my new-almost boobs! -
Having problems posting hear would like to join you all
myrna -
Denise,
I'm so happy that you are past a year in remission of liver mets AND that your tumor marker is "less than 15".
Hip Hip Hooray !
