Herbal teas with health issues? Good reference source?
I have many common herbs in my garden...mint, thyme, lemon balm, rosemary, oregano, lavender. I am going to start drying them for tisanes, as well as using them fresh for sun/ices teas. Just want to make sure there are no ill effects I am not aware of esp for breast cancer. Talking a few cups here and there but I would still like to be informed other than just hearsay, etc...does anyone know of a good reliable source for this info?

Here's a list of herbs you want to avoid or do more research on. All have contraindications.

Here's a list of herbal teas that are good for better health. No contraindications, unless you have liver or kidney disease.

Because it's all so complicated, I try to avoid stuff on the first list and use the herbs on the second one for relief of whatever ails me, unless I'm convinced otherwise by someone with a medical degree.
Though I can't give a link to the handout provided by my naturopath, the two links above provide basically the same information when it comes to contraindications to breast cancer. Good luck! I'm jealous that you have all that lovely stuff at your fingertips!

Thank you for these links!

Hope they're helpful. Since a lot of people visit the comp and alt threads, I'm going to add to my post. Every plant that has medicinal value has the potential for unsafe interactions with conventional drugs. Such is the case for me and garlic. I eat copious amounts of garlic and am on a blood thinner. I started bruising everywhere. My INR was checked for 6 months to regulate my Fragmin dosage with my garlic consumption. I honestly didn't think the lowly garlic bulb had the potential to kill me. Easily could have, had nobody told me. I don't think many doctors take that into account. Bleeding to death from garlic....what a kick in the head.
Not just plants and supplements either. I use metformin and a statin as cancer treatment, not their intended use, so melatonin (which affects blood sugar) was taken off the table for me. I assumed since it was OTC, it'd be just fine....only to find out that any benefit gained by the metformin and statin was being negated by the melatonin.
If you want to ingest anything not on that second list, I highly recommend running it by at the very least, a pharmacist.
Stay safe everyone!

Good points, Leggo.

Thanks for those links, Leggo. I was surprised by the information on melatonin vis-a-vis blood sugar.
By the way, MSKK has a good site as well; I think there's a link to it in one of the threads on turmeric/curcumin. If I weren't so lazy I'd go look for it...

I learn so much here: I though why so much blood, there's no rain, then I thought that half a big garlic clove I put in the pasta this morning.
