Muscle Involvement

Hi all,

I have been reading and researching here for over a week now after finding a rather large lump in my right breast. The information here and all of you telling your stories have been a source of calming strength. Had biopsy done yesterday following mammo and US a week ago. US image is what I'm calling "the poster child for malignancy" in an US image. Spikes, uneven margins, internal vascularization, the lot. It also has grown quickly in the past month and is very hard. The surgeon performing the biopsy said it looked malignant and worrisome for muscle involvement. So that brings me to my question because I can't really find what the muscle involvement would be indicating to her. Is muscle involvement an indication that it has spread beyond the breast tissue? Probably should have asked her but was shaking due to the lidocaine and probably the news of this hitting me. I go back in a week for biopsy results.

Steph

she may have been referring to the chest wall, that's muscle, I had to have an MRI because my silicone Breast implants are on top of the muscle. When I had a scare, I had previously been in ER for bad pain in my ribs on same side of breast in question, the Breast surgeon reassured me that Breast cancer usually goes upwards first not down... she gestured to armpit and toward her neck. I would ask if an MRI would beneficial for you. I think you should call your radiologist or better stills your breast surgeon tomorrow morning and ask them to clarify the report, so you don't have to spend the weekend wondering about it.. I found the waiting and anxiety so tough, especially during the weekend

Thank you for your replies and prayers. Fakeboobs12 I have implants too. Yes, I think the surgeon mentioned an MRI in my future. Probably after the biopsy comes back next week.

Steph99... It is shocking to me that you have to wait a week to get biopsy results?

    Artsee,

It might come sooner. I think the appointment this coming Tuesday will just be a formality with treatment plan laid out.

That said, I'm editing this post because I just called the nurse and she said results are in, earliest would be 6 days post biopsy and that sometimes the doctor can call a couple days before and get results. I'm just going to be patient and get busy today. Looking for answers on the internet and in books sometimes helps but I think at this point the results are the only answer that will do it for me.

In the meantime, the little tiny strips of tape on the biopsy site are itching the heck out of me!

steph99 you absolutely need an MRI if you have implants like me, it's the only way to see what's underneath them.. the good news is my MRI was preauthorized, my insurance allows women with implants an MRI every three years without any preauthorization.. And I only have an NY state of health insurance, nothing fancy. There was a point where I was so exhausted from worrying I just couldn't worry anymore, I was still scared but went into a more calmer state of mind from sheer tiredness
