Melb - they gave me a drug called Aloxi which lasted 4 days - and it kept me from throwing up! You may want to ask about it-they put in in my IV during infusion.
-
Thanks supernanny -
They said that they would be giving me Aloxi prior to the AC. I have prescriptions for Campazine, Ativan & Zofran too. I start Tuesday 8:00 am.
-
Is Emend not being used anymore? I haven't seen it mentioned in a while for nausea.
-
I have been given emend...
-
I get Emend and Aloxi in my premeds and Zofran and Compazine afterwards. I was ver sick for 2 of 3 pregnancies, but have done fine on the AC. I do set my phone alarm for my antinausea meds. It's all a crap shoot as far as side effects. Assume the best untilproven otherwise.
-
So anyone take Biotin? When do you start taking it (hair support vitamin I believe)? 48 hours after the last AC treatment is done?
Thanks!!!
-
I started taking Biotin & Silica supplements about 3 weeks before I began chemo. I think they've helped. I'm done with dd AC and just had weekly Taxol #4 and do have some new growth coming in. I also had to shave the hair on my legs today.
-
What strength Biotin is recommended by the MOs?
-
Princess: Are you only doing AC? No Taxol?
I have a question. I don't really want to ask but is there any chance I won't lose my eyebrows and lashes on AC? If I do lose them, when does it happen? I am on my third round one week in.
-
I haven't lost my brows or lashes on AC. Brows have thinned a bit but still very present. I'm told those go on Taxol or Taxotere - not the AC
-
Trvler - I only lost about 1/2 of eye lashes and brows on A/C but on Taxol the rest left. Have you been to a Look Good Feel Better class yet? They will teach you all sort of 'stuff'' makeup/skin care wise. One thing was the 'points' to use with no brows to use a brow pencil. By the time they totally left on Taxol, I already knew the 'feel' of where to use the pencil.
-
Allison - yes I'm on AC then Taxol later. Hair was thinning BADLY starting day 13 and now day 16 it's like a free-fall of hair ( I had it cut to about an inch all over). I'm happy to hear the brows may hang in there! I'm going to try cold therapy on the brows during the infusion to see if that works like the cold caps do. ;-)
-
hahahaha Princess...I so want to see a picture of that!
Not making fun of the idea - just the visual
-
My stomach acid is trying to kill me. I have the prescription meds and the prilosec, but the acid nausea just won't freaking quit. Anyone got a miricale cure?
-
Bekah - hahaha i know, it's going to look ridiculous, but i kinda feel i'm already on the ridiculous train so why the heck not? ;-)
LittleBlue - UGH sorry the meds aren't working - i just started prescription prilosec tonight in prep for tomorrow's AC as the heartburn was killing me last round of AC - i really hope it's enough!
-
Trvler, I didn't lose any eyebrows or lashes on AC. I was told that AC goes after quickly dividing cells and those hair follicles do not fall into that category unlike the hair on your head. I am now done with 4 Taxols and my eyebrows and lashes are thinning but not too bad yet. I've heard that they can make it through the 12 weeks only to fall out after treatment is complete. I've also heard that they can fall out towards the end of treatment. So I'm not sure what to expect. I've been using Latisse but someone on another forum recommended saving it until after the lashes fall out as it supposedly won't help me. But on another forum, I read that someone used Latisse all during Taxol and had good results. Hmmm. My MO told me that Taxol goes after slowly dividing cells the kind in our brows and lashes but did say that some people manage to never lose them but most do at some point and it is varied. Not much help. I guess I'll stick with my spotty use of Latisse and see what happens. If I notice any changes, I can let you know. I also did sign up for the Look Good Feel Good Class next week as it is supposed to offer good advice dealing with those issues.
-
I figured the Look Good thing was going to teach you about eyeliner and eyebrow pencils. I guess I should sign up for one.
-
Littleblue.. call your MO and tell them about the acid feeling. I had the same thing and he called in a script for me.. can't remember the name of it but it worked. pro something..... lol
Trvler I was wondering the same about brows and eyelashes. I really would love to hang on to mine if possible. Hopefully Taxol will be kind to me.
I am actually feeling great this week... but dreading AC #3 next Thursday!!!
-
I hear you, Leigh. I am dreading #4 because I know my heart will start bouncing around again. I have decided it's not anxiety but I am hoping it is the steroids. It has all but stopped now but I know it will come back.
-
Ok, called my MO and found out I had been way under treating my acid nausea...had only been taking one prilosec. He said I could take two Prilosec a day and 4 of the sucracalfate or whatever the prescription stuff is...on the same day! Anything to protect your tummy when the skin sloughing starts. Of course now I'm playing catch up, so don't let it go like I did...was basically a miserable nauseous couch blob yesterday, but after quadruple ng my meds, feel much better...
-
My eyebrows have thinned dramatically since AC #4 and I haven't even started Taxol. I normally have very thick eyebrows so it's pretty noticeable now. I've had to use my brow pencil every morning and use eyeliner to make it look like I have thicker lashes, it's usually the longest part of my makeup routine now.
Not looking forward to Taxol next week. Beh. I've also been getting naseua caused by heart burn which I didn't have before and my taste buds really took a hit with my last treatment. I hope this goes away soon.
-
i had my eyebrows/eyelashes in tact after a/c #4. Just had first dose dense taxol almost two weeks ago and eyebrows are really thinning now. Stomach acid issues went away on taxol. Still had heart racing on taxol so I think it's the steroids. Taste buds and smell coming back. My dry mouth in and out now are better too. Was concerned about my skin outside my mouth just shriveling up and lots of wrinkles but its almost back to normal on taxol. Also swollen and watery eyes has gotten a little better. Still an issue with vision being blurry
-
I had my first Taxol 3 days ago. Had an allergic reaction (rash) after about 10 min so they gave Benadryl and it want away. MO say we will try next week and if I have another allergic reaction he will switch to Abraxane.
Also had Herceptin - no noticeable SE so far.
Also had Perjeta - mild nausea with that but nothing like the AC.
I did get some diarrhea yesterday but they said the Perjera would cause that. Stopped it with Immodium and hasn't come back.
I did start to get a rash the day after infusion so I called my MO - they failed to call back and a Benadryl took care of it so I'll just make sure they know it happened. It's quite possible I entered the wrong call-back number...chemo brain! But since it resolved I didn't bother them with the issue again.
1 down...11 to go.

Anyone beside me still getting their period??? I started yesterday to my complete surprise!! Where are my benefits to this chemo???? LOL -
My period hasn't shown up, but I haven't had any hot flashes either. WTF? Wondering if I need a pregnancy test...be just my luck. 10 years medically diagnosed infertile, start chemo and bam. Oh God that would be horrifying...
-
Also my nose and leg hair is still hanging on, dammit.
-
Littleblue-- don't worry... leg hair takes a little longer but it will go! But I still have hair on my head.... I refused to shave and I have some. I can wear a ball cap and have a little hair sticking out. I am sure after rounds 3 and 4 it will go but I'm holding on to what I got while I got it!
-
I still have a little hair on my head, nose hair and some leg hair. I missed my period but I am not happy about it. I have had some hot flashes. Not too bad. Mostly the day of infusion.
-
Grrr cycle 2 day 5! here, something like day 24 after first AC treatment and a few tufts of hair refuse to fall out, I want to see if i can rock the bald but right now I just look like a person missing 95% of their hair!
-
ive now had two periods on chemo . One on a/c round 2 and now just started yesterday while on taxol. Very frustrated too. They said its not unusual to have a period on chemo but didn't think I'd have anymore after the first one. Ha .....
