I had a mastectomy with nipple removal three years ago. Then a year later corrective surgery on the reconstructive breast because it was malformed and had pain. It is now almost two years later and I still have discomfort and pain. The surgeon suggested surgery again and I am hesitate. Is it normal to have to need surgery two times after the reconstruction.

Ask your doctor if you have post mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS). The topic on this board is rather dated, as it goes back about 5 years before doctors acknowledged the problem.

I developed a neuroma after my February DIEP, and my PS cut it out April 13 at which time he also fixed my "wings" under my armpits. The neuroma pain is gone now.

I will ask about the PMPS. Do you know what they do about it? Also I can not lay in certain positions like on my belly or certain ways on my side without lots of discomfort. Is this normal? Since I have already had to have corrective surgery once already am wondering if I should see a different surgeon or if this is normal to need more than one corrective surgery.
