Benign things don't turn into anything else as a rule

Someone wrote "atypical hyperplasy" or something to that effect on another board. I believe she called it "Benign but on it's way to becoming cancerous."   I would check that and also check with a couple of breast specialists. Get more than one opinion if you need it!

Usually masses like cysts, fibroadenoma do not turn into something else. I had a fibroadenoma which I discovered many years ago and it still presented as such in my mastectomy pathology report. I asked the breast surgeon if cysts turn cancerous and she said no. I am a bit confused though as in my case, I had an u/s 1 year before I was diagnosed and I had a cyst in the same location of my cancer, so something must have been missed on my u/s (the year before my dx) as I find it a bit difficult to accept that a grade 2 cancer could grow to become a palpable mass of at least 2.5cm in a matter of 6 months. However, the doc say that cysts usually don't become cancerous.

The atypical hyperplasia means an increased risk for a women to have have cancer as atypical hyperplasia means that the breast cells are dividing more frequently. Not all women with atypical hyperplasia develop cancer but it does increase the risk.

I would ask for a copy of all of the tests that you do. The monitor of every 6months it's normal for anything new in the breast.

    Good luck
