The bedroom is currently a shade of wine and when we first painted the room, I loved it and was fine with it, but then the funky stuff started happening, it totally turned me off the color

Jazzy! That room looks so CLEAN and pretty! I love pink too.... It was my Mom's favorite color.... Our girls gave me a pink rose bush after she passed away.... That reminds me.... I have to get another one.... it didn't make it after a few hard Winters.... I'll figure out what I did wrong, and try again.

Talking about painting..... I'm going to paint our back-door a real pretty blue.... like a "sail" blue.... It says that on the can. I've seen a bunch of pretty painted doors on Google Images, so I'm goimg to see what I can do.... Maybe a darker blue for the frame? I haven't figured it all out yet.....

Wow!! Miss a few days on this thread and it's pages ahead of me!! Tried to skim through and catch up a little. Since pink was mentioned, I will say my DD2 has a hot pink room. I had a hot pink room when I was little...still have the afghan my grandmother made for me that is pink, red and white. Those were the colors in my room - not sure how I came up with it, but that's what it was!

Crazy stuff at my house...DD2 still has the yeast issue, although it seems a little better. They did some immune system bloodwork on Friday. Bought her one probiotic, but think I need to look for a different one. Been reading online and they talk about needing two strains in it for yeast and the one I bought only has one. Hope the bloodwork comes back soon...I'll be surprised if it shows a problem, but still a little anxious about it.

Hubby's kidney function is a little low based on his bloodwork so he had to have an ultrasound today. He only has 1 kidney, so it's concerning for sure. He was trying to read the face of the technician, but she was tight-lipped - no clues from her! They were done quickly...I'm hoping that is a good sign, but I suppose I don't know. So, we're waiting on those results, too.

On a happy note, my best friend since elementary school is stopping by tomorrow afternoon on her way through town! I'm very excited about it - we'll be going out to dinner and are looking forward to catching up. My parents found some more boxes of my stuff from when I was little and she is bringing them to me so I will be taking a trip down memory lane for sure. I suspect most of it will be trash, but at least I said something before they threw everything away and I can look at it before I throw it away.

    Have a great day, all!!

Mel- how cool about your childhood BFF visiting. I reconnected with my about five years ago and they visited when they were out this way and also went to see them in Texas one time too. Nothing like old friends who knew us when, eh? I find with old friends, you pick up where you left off and are not explaining so much to them as you do with new friends.

I hope everyone in the family is feeling better soon too. Lots going on there.

Mommy- those colors sound nice. Will you get a paint wheel from one of the paint stores?

I had an awesome Skype/phone interview today for some work I thought I wanted, but now KNOW I really want. Waiting to hear more if we are pulling the trigger. Fingers crossed!

Mel, sorry it is all still going on. Soloray superdophilus powder. Usually I buy in capsules, but with that thrush I had to take it by the tablespoon. Are you washing the toothbrushes. Supplements are under extreme scrutiny. Companies are not policing themselves. You have to be extremely careful who you buy any supplement from.
I turned my dads renal numbers around when he was on dialysis. If you want we can talk eventually.

OK will try to maintain some internet connection. Has been off for hours and still coming/going some. Don't know if it's after affects of the craptastic (yes I said that) weather yesterday. All I can say is God had a hand in putting those tornadoes south of DFW thru mostly farmland. Appears to be normal low threshold tornado damage - barns, roofs, etc. - but had that gone thru the metroplex woulda be a whole 'nother story. Plus the flashflooding from it. I don't think I've heard of any injuries even.

I must say my new weather radio did almost cause me to pee my pants when it went off yesterday afternoon. Still needs some tweaking of its programming but all in all I like it.

And today I see Granada Hills CA has fire storms. Maddie I did look to see where you were, PTL the other side of LA. Anyone else out that side of LA? Sure hope not. Now we can even send a little rain from Texas out there for all of you.

Maddie - congrats on DD getting in nursing school. Bummer how you found out. Mine is kinda back in the non-communicative mood again. I could go for weeks and never hear from her esp. now that Dad has her taxes straightened out lol.

Most of my walls are boring off white. The living room is 2 shades of beige with a fake chair rail - it's actually all painted paneling. When I 1st got out of nursing school I was working 11p-7a. I painted our east/south facing bedroom a dark seafoam green. I loved it and it surely kept that south light down during the winter while I was trying to sleep. I have painted one - yes just one - wall of the our bedroom a light yellow which I didn't like and haven't progressed to anything else. DD's room AKA the junk room has one wall of deep day glow blue - her choice. If I ever get it cleaned out I would like to make it a lounge though it has to keep a bed for her occas. visits. It has no satellite receiver box though so no hurry in doing anything about it.

Heck Sassy I'm probably on my 4th cup of coffee. Oh I get it double fisted coffee!

Jazzy - Yes, you are right...it's so nice to talk to someone I have a lot of history with! We talk often on the phone and, although that's fun, too, nothing beats an in-person visit! Thanks for the well wishes for the family. We have good news...found out this evening that my DH's kidney function is stable - ultrasound showed no masses or cysts or anything like that, so Dr will recheck in 3 months. I have to wonder if the change had anything to do with him eating less carbs to help his blood sugar since that means he was eating more protein.

Sas - thanks for the probiotic info...I will have to look for that one at the health food store. I should be able to get it at the big health food store where I get all my gluten free food - they have a much bigger selection than the one I went to yesterday. I must confess, never did the toothbrush in the dishwasher thing. I'm better at replacing them frequently rather than getting them in the dishwasher! The good news is that the spots look way better than it was before, so we've made a lot of progress and I hope we have turned a corner on things. Regarding the hubby's kidney issues, thanks for the offer to help with that - I will keep you posted. I'm encouraging him to check with a dietician to make sure the changes he's made to help his blood sugar are not adversely effecting his kidney, but I'm not sure if he will do it. That's great that you were able to help your dad out so much! I'm very paranoid about taking mainstream meds and using supplements...hate them all, but I do take a multivitamin and some Calcium and Vit D. That's about the extent of it for me - nothing exotic!

Luvmygoats - my work has one of those weather radios and it is definitely jolting when it goes off!

Chevy - what a super cute pic!

Mommyof2 - good luck with the paint chips! Wish I were motivated to do some painting around here!

Wren - good luck with the med change - my daughter was on the omeprazole last year, but it was only for about 6 months. She has done pretty well without it, but some foods do bother her tummy a little.

Wren, were you instructed to take one before meals? We have that on hand, and it works for us.... We tried the prescription ones years ago, but the Ranitidine was what one other Doctor told us to try....

I only take one now if I start to get heart-burn.... like from too much coffee... etc.

Thanks Mel! I love to look at pictures like that.... Google Images has about anything you want....

hi Enerva, are those your bottles? The boobs are ok, I think it's just something I'll just have to learn to live with. It's not bad, more annoying.

I saw the gastroenologist this morning. He thinks it's muscular. But he's willing do an upper endoscopy. It was scheduled for Friday afternoon than called me back for tomorrow morning. Much better timing. So this episode of my body troubles is almost over. Grrr

Wrenny, I know you know some of this stuff, I'll do a complete thing in case someone wanders by :) Omeprazole---Prilosec----these are thoughts from several sources. Weaning from a PPI Proton Pump Inhibitor aka known as a blocker. While blocker is used allot it's an incorrect use(see below)

PPI's-- Should be weaned over 3(2-4) weeks. This I read a year or so ago. I'll have to go see if there's a how to wean suggestion. The more recent thing I read a couple of weeks ago is logical, but not for the reason I thought. PPI interferes with the development of acid producing cells. The cells will start to regenerate as soon as the medication starts to wear off. Hence they start producing acid. This can lead to a rebound of acid symptoms. If transitioning to a H2 blocker, it may seem that the H2 blocker isn't working. H2 blockers --block some of the acid, but not all. In the situation where there is now acid present, it may seem if the H2 blocker isn't working and the patient would return to the PPI. The articles all stated if there is a true failure in weaning it's going to be with the GERD patient.

PPI's are meant for short term use I.e <6 months. Mixed results in studies, but are a concern for contributing to osteoporosis, hypomagnesia, predisposing to bacterial /viral exposure. The worst of these is C-diff.

Rantidine monograph from Dailymed. By the way trying to get to a weaning to do list, several articles mentioned using rantidine--Zantac. Of the three I review all mentioned rantidine. There must have been a study where rantidine was the H2 blocker used fro weaning.

    Weaning suggestions. Discusses three scenarios'

    ----------------------------------------------

Wren, this article was the only one that had actual how to wean info. It's from the Sonoma Medical Association. It's Integrative Medicine. I don't like the suggestions re: licorice for sure. The discussion re increasing the acid not supported by other reading. Discussion of additional supplements like B12. Don't agree with unless supported by labs.

BUT if you can read around that stuff. There are many good suggestions. Plus, what to do if you run into trouble with rebound. Good Luck :)

    http://www.nbcms.org/AboutUs/SonomaCountyMedicalAssociation/Magazine/tabid/747/language/en-US/pageid/668/winter-2014-digestive-health-integrative-medicinebrweaning-gerd-patients-off-ppis.aspx

Since I've given the citation, I will post the short list. Read the rest of the article at your own risk.

    "Taper off the PPI slowly.

    • The higher the dose, the longer the taper. Expect rebound symptoms.
    • Decrease the current PPI dose by 50% each week until patient is on the lowest dose once daily.
    • In 2 weeks, change to H2 blocker. If symptoms flare, can alternate H2B every other day with omeprazole.
    • After 2-4 weeks on H2 blocker, try stopping or weaning.
    • After 2 weeks off H2 blocker, try tapering off supplements.
    • Continue lifestyle modifications."

Mel, Long long ago I wondered if washing toothbrushes in the dishwasher would reduce bacteria. Ds took it on as a science research project. The new brushes were cultured>>DW>> Used for one week by test subjects>>recultured. DW>>recultured before use---100% bacteria free. Per science research criteria this was repeated for three weeks. Each time the results were the same.

Mel you don't want me to describe what cultured up after use. Actually, their was one test subject that had a seriously bad bug that had no business being anywhere near the mouth. My dilemma, the Mom in the family was okay with them being test subjects, but she just didn't want to know results. Forget how I worked that out. Bad bug.

Next years project was: New brushes cultured. Test subjects mouthes were cultured. Tests subjects used toothbrush. Brush then was put through a wash cycle. Repeated for five days(mon start -fri, stop) Mouths were recultured at the end of one week(fri). Results: Bacteria was reduced in the mouth. Repeated for three weeks.

Every toothbrush here goes in the dishwasher. UV lights are available , but they are expensive.

Sas - Fascinating info about the toothbrush experiment - what a tricky situation to be in with the Mom not wanting to know the results! I suppose it is really no different than putting a fork in there, now is it? I suppose I should get over the resistance and save some $$ by cleaning them instead of buying new. I forget, did you mention how often you run them through, is it once a week or sooner? Very interesting that in the second project that even the bacteria in the mouths was reduced.

Also, very interesting about the PPI's. I was trying to figure out if DD2's yeast came from some imbalance of her digestive system due to being on the PPI for 6 or so months. Have you ever heard of that before or am I barking up the wrong tree? I also wondered about the Flonase nasal spray and if that could have anything to do with it. Last year she had two bad sinus infections a few months apart that seemed to mess her up a lot. She got a bad cough and then developed reflux. When she saw the ENT and gastro last June she was put on Flonase and the PPI and then went off the PPI in Nov and the Flonase sometime in Dec. She has used that still sporadically if her nose gets bad from allergies, but is not on it regularly.

Mel, The research on PPI's was always keyed in on C-diff. I must of read a couple dozen articles a couple weeks ago. The C-diff has been known about for awhile. 10 years or more. My GI guy wanted me to take Prevacid. My research picked-up on the C-diff link. Working in a hospital I didn't want to be taking something that may predispose me to a bug. Through my GI for a loop LOL. He's like Sheldon from BIG BANG THEORY.  Two weeks later he stopped me in the hall. Said he searched and could not find a single reference where hospital personnel picked up C-diff while on PPI's. I just smiled and said " It hasn't been studied." He grunted. He knew I was right. AND I knew him he worked at finding an answer. LOved him.

But in that article that I said read at your own risk. It talked about repopulating bacteria. When the digestive microflora(normal bugs--good guys) are altered by drugs. The whole digestive system can go kaflooey. Kaflooey great medical term :). That article had allot of good things to say. I just didn't like the talk of supplements. I take a few, but I studied them extensively by Evidence Based Research. Can't verify that the article was right unless I read all their bib resources.

With DD could be, if no other factors changed in that time. BUT that's another search. The article did address yeast I believe, and repopulating with probiotics.

PhyllinHouston pointed out something about Flonase. Whatever she told me it was an OH MY moment. Too late to call her.............Was your DD on antibx's for the sinus infection. Antibiotics are the biggest cause of yeast overgrowth, they kill the good guy bugs as well as the bad.

I'll check out Flonase at dailymed.

Yup, toothbrush is used once then goes to the dishwasher.

    Mel Bingo     http://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/search.cfm?labeltype=all&query=FLONASE

    "Candida Infection

In clinical trials with fluticasone propionate administered intranasally, the development of localized infections of the nose and pharynx with Candida albicans has occurred. When such an infection develops, it may require treatment with appropriate local therapy and discontinuation of FLONASE Nasal Spray. Patients using FLONASE Nasal Spray over several months or longer should be examined periodically for evidence of Candida"

Mel has DD been cultured? Candida is the likely yeast. But a culture is the only definitive way to dx a bug. I'm going to link to a thread I worked on. It was on a stage 4 thread. I just kind of kept on with stuff there. Key in on my description of "Paintball Therapy". I coined the phrase in the 1980's. No sense repeating it here.

PLUS, I meant to suggest you read the stuff I found on Vita D. We had a discussion here a while ago. Spookie & Jazzy were told by their docs to take 5000 units a day of D3. It caught me off guard b/c I wasn't up on it. Set me off on a search. You and Loverly exchanged posts here on Vita D, meant to suggest that thread.

It's a twofer---Paintball Therapy and Vita D( later in the thread)

    YOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO    LOVERLY   see above.

Be back with link---------here it is..............

I have to take prilosec for gerd.. or I am just miserable. I can't seem to get the italics off. How irritating. Long term use of prilosec can mess up digestion, calcium absorption, bone loss, low magnesium, low B12 (I think.. have to look it up again) among other issues - micro nutrients not being absorbed because of pH changes. Most of the long term issues are with folks taking 40-60mg of prilosec, not just 20mg a day. So you need to talk it over with your GI doc or PCP as to whether it's worth it. I am with you Wren ranatidine/ zantac doesn't work as well as prilosec.

Chevy-love the picture. Try getting a Lincoln Rose to remember your Mom. It's an old fashion rose and has deep red flowers and the most delicious rose smell -stinks up the house! Wonderful! It's an upright rose bush. The blue door sounds pretty. You know after thinking about you saying you call your daughter daily. I text almost every other day.. short quick stuff. I guess that counts. We got into texting because deaf kids can't call unless you use relay, so texting is easier. I get unlimited texts on my phone, can't hear for chit on the phone!

Good luck with the paint choices. Our walls are a warm off white in the Master bedroom. One wall has wall paper with a tan background, early American design little burgundy leaves in 3s with a dot. Very soothing. I kind of love Colonial and Shaker things. Comes from spending lots of time in Pennsylvania with it's history. Chevy- Matlesse bedspreads are the white double cotton thick bedspreads of old, usually have a pattern on them and the good ones are made in Portugal or Maine/ Mass. I bought 2 for my kids twin beds and they look gorgeous and they are 15 years old. They last, worth paying for.

Smarty I hope they find out what ails you. I found a quilted table runner at Goodwill that so pretty! It's purple and white and very much like the one you posted.. it's on our table love it. I don't know how to quilt. Mel- hope your husband ends up being ok and his kidney is fine. scary. I will try running toothbrushes through the dishwasher.. makes sense.

Luvmygoats- we never get tornados here and they had one a couple of week ago that touched down at the Eugene community college parking lot, flipped 2 cars over and smashed another windshield! It made the news since it is so rare here. I am glad things are ok there. Anyone I forgot..sorry.. my brain is tired. (((hugs))))
