lumpectomy and reconstruction
I have 5 fibroadenomas in my right boob (I hate the word breast!! Lol), and one could be a phyllodes...three are stuck together. I've had biopsies on all of them and theyre all benign. My surgeon suggests I take them out, but since they're big, taking them out would mean my boob would be smaller than left one. He suggests I get a reduction in the left to match the right. Has anyone had a lumpectomy and a reconstruction at the same time? I would have both my breast surgeon and a plastic surgeon doing the work, and surgery would be about 3 hours, which actually terrifies the shit out me (I'm so scared of going under and never waking up). Thats my biggest fear. any similar experiences??

Hi Emb,
I had a lumpectomy and recon in one surgery. I had the cancer and another area of concern removed from the bad girl, and reduction on the good girl to make it match. Best decision for me. My surgery was 4.5 hours, but I had cancer and had to have my node biopsied also. Very rare to go under and not wake up. Anesthesia has come a long, long way! If you are too anxious the day of surgery, ask for some anti-anxiety meds to help you.
Do you have any specific questions? Or concerns?

Hi,
Similar B9 situation. I have big fat necrosis lumps which will need to be taken out, about 8cm. PS will reduce other breast so symmetry is obtained!
Me too anethesia scares me but I'm soooooooo fed up of breast issues that I need this to be done!

I did have a lumpectomy, along with a bilateral reduction, but not at the same time. The reduction took about 3.5 hours, and I can tell you that although I was uncomfortable the first week out, it was really much easier than I imagined. After 3 weeks I did a 30 mile bike ride (with a very sturdy sports bra!). I had no bad reactions to the anesthesia, I had no drains. Now, 4 years later, the scars are all but invisible and the plastic surgeon was able to totally remove the 2" lumpectomy scar when she did the reduction.

Alicki, as I said above, recovery from the reduction surgery was really not a big deal. I thin I took pain meds for the first 2 or 3 days. It was actually week 3 which was the worst-- zinging pain from nerve regeneration, but this lasted only about a week. More weird than painful. I felt more or less normal (with some exercise restrictions) after 3 weeks. Couldn't be lure pleased with the results
