I had surgery in February and March, BS removed tape from Feb surgery during March surgery, and March tape during a post op visit.  I think you should leave the tape on until either dr takes it off or it falls off.

I have steri-strips on my inframammary incisions and my donar site incisions. I was told not to remove them but to let them fall off on there own. It has been 3 weeks and some of the donar site tape has come off but the rest are sticking around a while longer...unfortunately.

Nanc: I had a BMX and had tegaderm as a dressing (holding gauze on there, but not keeping anything together). On the day after surgery, the surgeon said to leave all dressings on for at least 48 hours. So about 3 days total. I suppose it could vary if the tegaderm is being used differently in your situation or you have staples vs stitches or whatever. So please check your discharge information to see if it addresses this question for you. If not, don't hesitate to call the number they gave you to ask about the recommended timing and technique of removal for you

They actually did not want the tegaderm left on too long either. I had my husband remove it, finished by a visiting nurse who arrived just in time!

The steristrips on an earlier biopsy were a different story (leave on till they fall off) which they took their sweet time doing while causing itchy blisters.

My skin reacts so badly to tegaderm, I can't use it as a dressing anymore.  Blisters, itching, dermatitis.  The only tape that my skin is OK with is a papery fabric tape I buy at CVS.

I had tagaderm all over my entire chest after my BMX to support my purse string closure. It was left on for 6 weeks until everything healed and my scabs came off. (I did not get to shower that first 6 weeks) This time around (exchange) He took my tagaderm off at 9 days post op. I'm almost 4 weeks out and my steri strips are just starting to release on the edges. I soap them up, but they're not ready to come off. I'm okay with that as they're protecting my scars. Plus my skin tears when adhesive is pulled off. No thanks!

So my question is this...did the surgeon tell you to remove the tape? If not, just leave it be.
