April 22 - the day my life changed - IDC Diagnosed
A few weeks before Easter I felt a lump in my left breast - did not think it was anything. Had a Clear Mammo in October and get one every year. Continued to feel the lump and decided to call OBGYN. Got sent for Mammo with Ultrasound. Ultrasound Tech found large clear cyst - definitely what I was feeling. Then Dr came in and took over ultrasound focusing on another area next to the cyst. Said looks abnormal and small and decided to do needle biopsy - that was on 4/17. Even during the Biopsy was told it could be just another cyst forming so was not alarmed. Went in on 4/22 to have biopsy site checked and get results. When DR came in and shut the door and sat down and started with the word "Unfortunately..." my life changed... I have 8 year old twins and at that moment all I could think about was them not having a Mom. I am still waiting for the rest of the pathology. Scheduled for Appt to meet Surgeon, Oncologist and Radiologist all together on May 1st. Going for 2nd Opinion as well... they say it is small and looks like Stage 1 early but waiting for all tests and Breast MRI to confirm. I am still in shock and scared and can't help but think if I had not gone in for the cyst and if the UltraSound DR did not look further ... Found this site and reading everyone's blogs - helps to know I am not alone but soo sad so many diagnosed everyday! Stay Strong everyone!!
PS.. A man must have designed the Breast MRI Machine - I felt beat up after that - wow!

I'm sorry you have joined the club nobody wants to be a member of. This is the scariest part, waiting for details, but It sounds like you've caught it early and your doctors are being very proactive. Once you have a treatment plan lined out it will get better. As for your kids, try not to go to the dark place. (Don't hesitate to ask your doctors for some anti-anxiety medication. It can really help you deal with all the stress and sleep.) BC is very treatable, especially when caught early. I have 3 small children and they've handled it surprisinglywell.

Hi mdoc,
My twins were 7 when I was diagnosed at the age of 40, so I can relate to how you feel. Worrying about my kids was the first reaction I had as well. One thing I learned is to deal with this one step at a time, and to take it day by day, and to put one foot in front of the other. Do not worry about what may or may not happen in the future, and make the best of your today. Also, since this was caught very early, the chances are that your prognosis is excellent. Also, you will start feeling more in control when you start treatment. I wish you and your family the best.

YoungTurkNYC & Sunflowercat - thanks so much for your words of support! I see your history and hope you are doing OK as well.. the waiting is so hard. My MRI came back with 2 additional spots needing further evaluation so back to hospital tomorrow for U/S & possible needle biopsy and then to Genetic testing .. I am meeting a team of Dr's for 1st time on Friday - just hoping to know then more definite plan for treatment. Thanks Again - still learning this site .. so much great info and resources... Mary

I am sorry you have to be here. Hugs. I am glad to hear you are getting a second opinion. It sounds like you caught it very early so that's great!
I understand your feelings about your kids. Try not to think about those things now. You have to focus on getting better now. Please let us know how things go today, Mary.
