Links to Personal Web Sites

Perhaps this has been discussed before - ? Probably so, but I didn't find anything recent about it.

Posters (members) are allowed to put the address of their personal web sites and blogs in their sig lines. Some of these are their own commercial (revenue-producing) sites and while they are BCO members, they are, in part, trying to make money off other members.

Yes, I know - don't follow the links and don't buy anything from them. However, I question the policy and would like to understand the rationale for BCO's position on this.

Thanks.

Hi, and thanks so much for bringing up this issue. Yes, we have the following rule:

    1. You agree not to advertise or promote any goods or services or solicit anyone to buy or sell goods or services, or to make donations of any kind, without our express written approval. "Junk mail", "spamming", "chain letters", "pyramid schemes" and similar activities are strictly prohibited.
We do delete all solicitors, and TRY to delete other links. Please, all report links in signature lines that you find inappropriate or breaking one of our rules. We appreciate your help with this.

But a woman's private breast cancer blog is all right, right?

Thanks for the quick reply, Mods. I'll send you a PM.

Tomboy, I, too, hope those are OK ... just so you know, I wasn't referring to that category.

O Thanks! I have been working on one, and I was thinking about adding it to sig line, but wasn't sure if it was ok. The few women that i have seen do that, I very much appreciate doing that!
