They are saying she is er+ pr+ her- grade 1 tumor after the biopsy came back. The oncologist and the pathology report say the tumor is on .7 cm. Yesterday after meeting with the general surgeon he's thinking it could be as big a 3 cm's.

Went from thursday thinking "great stage 1" to friday thinking "dang stage 3"

This is a Rollor coaster ride and I hate Rollor coasters

I'm a little confused about the staging at this point. I've seen several ladies with 3cm tumor lymph node involvement and are also stage 2, does that mean they're stage 2b?

jmute-- when is your wife's surgery?  you're right the roller coaster sucks big time.  You definitely won't know anything final until after the surgery.  Like kayb indicated, there are so many different factors to the staging, there's a wide discrepancy to how she can get staged.  Also, there are tests such as the Oncotype test that tell you how aggressive the tumor can be and can also play a key part in determining the treatment path.  Basically, size may not determine everything.  Right now, it's definitely trying to learn a new language, so please do your best and hang in there!

We've switched her to a better cancer center and her 1st appointment is next Wednesday, hopefully surgery will be 2 or 3 weeks after that. That will put her around the middle of may, about a month after her original dx....hopefully we didn't waste too much time.

With a grade 1 tumor 3 weeks is definitely fine. They're very slow-growing.

If the biopsy result of "Grade 1" holds true at Final pathology, then waiting until next month won't matter. Grade 1 is the lowest grade. It's "slow and lazy", at least that's how one oncologist described it.

My wife waited about 2 months between initial biopsy and mastectomy surgery. I questioned why there was no sense of urgency, but learned that her tumor had been growing for many years before being detected. A couple months wasn't going to make a difference. Plus it gave us time to research, get multiple opinions, prepare for surgery, etc. We even squeezed in a one week vacation to the beaches of Mexico before surgery.
