Update on My Sister's Shattered Leg

Just an update on my sister's shattered leg, Patrice said that her radiologist thinks her leg has degenerative disease so it may never recover fully. She still has a lot of pain and can't walk more than one block without terrible pain. It's been 3.5 years and four surgeries, so there's not much hope that the bone will regrow.
As if that's not bad enough, she found out that her house has termites.

So sorry that your sister is still suffering so much. Does She have a pain management specialist? Mine has worked with me to try to get a mixture of meds that will give relief with the minimum of side effects. Its a continual trial and error process. They can be very helpful as can psychologists that deal with the disabled.
I know I get allot of feedback from mine as to things that I used to take for granted that now need modifying. Especially time management as not to increase fatigue and therefore pain.
I cannot imagine having lower extremities affected like that.
I'm afraid arthritic processes go hand and hand with bad fractures sooner or later. Quality of pain changes over time so don't take anything to be written in stone that any radiologist says or any specialist for that matter.
My orthopedist said in his experience my condition would get
nothing but worse and worse--that was in his notes!
My Pt said no improvement could be expected after a year, so the insurance stopped my Physical Therapy.
Well I have stabilized and although still in pain, its not acute pain. In spite of the prognosis I am continuing to
get some additional use of my fingers albeit a little.
Okay its slower, but the improvement hasn't stopped. I hope the same for your sister.
My thoughts are with her for healing and peace of mind and hope. I know it can be discouraging but
you have to look back at how far she has come. Sometimes
the improvement is in such small increments that it can only be seen in hind site so tell her not to give up.

Hi Saluki, thanks for your comments. I'm glad to hear you are improving. My sister has had so many surgeries already, including one where they inserted a cadaver bone. Most people have good results with that, but her body rejected the bone. Then they took bone from her hip and inserted it into her leg. That still didn't work, so they did the same thing and inserted human growh hormone too. That's where she is now.
Some of the therapists had her do exercises that re-broke the let, so it's a total mess.
