I had a mammogram Thursday at 9am with the 3D and my drs. office called me Friday morning stating it was abnormal and needed further diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. Scheduled me for earliest available appt that is tomorrow. I got a copy of the report that states Craniocaudal and mediolateral oblique views of both breasts were obtained utilizing digital acquistion. Digital breast tomosynthesis was utilized. Asymmetry in the lateral right breast at posterior depth on the MLO view tomosythesis images warrants further evaluation with MLO spot compression tomosynthesis. Ultrasound is indicated. No suspisious mammographic findings in the left breast. In addition to standard review, the examination was analyzed for possible abnormalities using a computer-assisted detection device (R2 Image Checker).

Hi, Glenda. I'm really no expert. But, I have been called back for additional views. They are doing the additional ones to see whether there is anything of concern, or if there is a random shadow, tissue folded over, etc.. Hope that all turns out well for you!!

Both my mom and myself have been called back for diagnostic ultrasounds, my mom is in her sixties and was called back after a mammogram, and I am in my thirties and was called back after an MRI. If you have dense breasts, which most young women have and some older also, then mammogram is not useful and ultrasound provides adequate imaging mammogram can't. I would not be worried, my Breast center ultrasound mammomgraphy waiting room is always packed, always... When I've been there I'm usually the youngest there (in my thirties) which makes me think most women started with a mammogram first and were sent to ultrasound next, because just about everyone in the room is 40 plus. Being called back the next day shouldn't alarm you either, I think a lot of these Breast centers/ mammography places have caught on to the extreme anxiety waiting for results can cause and have protocol to make the process very speedy. Do not freak out if the tech leaves the room to consult with the radiologist, I've seen that happen a lot, they ask if additional views are required and have to consult often because the techs are not qualified to read images. All the best to you and allow yourself to relax, I hope you get the results of the ultrasound the same day like I did.

American Cancer Society says fewer than 10% of the women who get call backs have cancer.
