My biopsy is scheduled for tomorrow. Can someone tell me what this means? Thanks in advance.

Impression:

1. Highly suspicious mass of the right breast axillary tail, containing diffuse microcalcifications.

2. Additional small mass in the right breast at the 9:00 position may be a small fibroadenoma or lymph node, generally benign features.

3. Generally benign-appearing small lymph nodes of the right and left axilla.

4. There is an additional loose small cluster of slightly branching microcalcifications in the anterior right breast, upper outer quadrant. These are not associated with any sonographic abnormality.

Recommendation:

1. Ultrasound-guided biopsy of the dominant mass of the right breast axillary tail.

Assessment: Category: Highly Suggestive of Malignancy -Appropriate Action Should Be Taken. BI-RADS: 5.

    Choc,

Sorry you are dealing with this frightening diesase. There is a explanation of birad 5 here on BCO. Do a search, should be easy to find.

Bottom line, they think you have Breast Cancer. BUT they could be wrong, until they get a sample of the cells, it's a guessing game. Also, if it is malignant, you do not have the whole story until you have surgery. I went into surgery stage 2, came out stage 3...

Many ladies have surgery, get it removed, and do not need chemo. They do radiation or hormonal pills or both. The whole thing is obviously anxiety causing & expensive. Keep posting here on BCO, we all get it. Be kind to yourself, we tend to blame ourselves when things like this happen. Not your fault, and it is a scary roller coaster of emotions. I will be 2 years this summer since dx. Just passed the one year post active treatments. None of it easy, but we do get through it

There's no mention of the PET scan on the report, usually they mention if the mass of interest found correlates to the area that lit up on the PET.. That's what my ultrasound report said. It said that it correlated to the area of interest on the MRI. Think good thoughts and I will be thinking of you this coming week

Hi. That's not the entire report, just the last 2 sections, impression and recommendation. I was looking for feedback from others who could explain it in simpler terms so I assumed a summary of the findings was enough. I'm pretty sure the biopsy results will be positive given the Bi-RADS 5 grade...so, I've accepted that. From the report, I wasn't sure if my other interpretations are correct like that everything else looks benign and that the malignancy is confined to that one area and hasn't spread.

I did think only point one stood out as a problem, everything else listed on the summary read as unremarkable. I'm no radiologist - I am a nursing student so totally not qualified to interpret anything :) . I hope that pathology report gets in fast do you are no longer in unknown territory.
