Introducing myself

Hi to you all! I have been lurking on these boards for a week while waiting for my biopsy results. First off all, thank you for providing so much information, I felt prepared ( or so I thought) for anything when the result came in, even though I was sure it was going to be nothing.

My back story is 3 years again, same breast I had a biopsy of microcalcifications, came back as complex schloresing adenosis and complex Fibroadenosis? Anyway, I was super relieved and just continued with my mammograms yearly as instructed. My other health issues are heart disease with congestive heart failure(very controlled) 3 stents in my heart and diabetes type 2.

In addition my brother has been diagnosed with advanced terminal head and neck cancer. My father just died of multiple myeloma, my stepmom was just diagnosed with DCIS and leukemia which she had a bone marrow transplant. My aunt had breast cancer, she had a lumpectomy and as far as I know, no other issues. I have no other siblings, just my brother and I.

I had a biopsy of microcalcifications on Monday, Biards 4a, got the call yesterday. Here is the part that does make me laugh, I "thought" I was well prepared, especially since the surgeon I met originally was extremely dismissive and acted like it was a waste of his time that I was there, so my phone rang, the Nurse practitioner said "Kim, I am sorry but your stereotactic biopsy for microcalcifications came back positive for cancer" I dropped everything in my hand, in the middle of my work parking lot and just balled. She said we have options, we think it is in situ so you can have a lumpectomy with radiation, which doesn't fit anything I have read here, you can have medication or a mastectomy, treatment options and meeting with the surgeon on Tuesday morning.

Do they usually do an excisinal biopsy to make sure they got it all with a steteotatcic biopsy. They said I have extremely dense breasts so it is hard to see anything?

I will meet with this surgeon on Tuesday with my hubby but he is a general surgeon and wouldn't it be appropriate for him to refer me to a breast surgeon.

I know I am not even 24 hours into this diagnosis but I know I am not a good candidate for wait and see. Not with my family all having cancer. I need to be healthy to help them.

I am blessed with a wonderful support system, a job that I love, I am a probation officer and teach for the state. 3 great kids and a husband that is a godsend.

I am scared and confused.

I'm very confused, but what is your initial diagnosis? Do you have LCIS?

Since you have posted in that thread,I wanted you to know that LCIS is just considered a higher risk condition, not cancer.

Hi Knoss and welcome to our boards. It is hard to ever be really prepared to hear those words. We all understand that well. It sounds like you will get a lot more details and clarity this next week. You may want to prepare yourself with understanding questions that could ask your doctor. Here are some links that you may find contain helpful information before you visit the doctor.

Your Diagnosis: Questions to Ask Your Doctor

    Planning Your Treatment

Once you know your diagnosis, you may want to look at other forums, or we could move this topic for you to the correct place. We're here for you.

Knoss---from what your NP said (" we think it is in-situ, you could have a lumpectomy with radiation"), it sounds like they think you may have DCIS, (probably not LCIS, as radiation is not given for LCIS). When you see the surgeon on Tues, as him what the biopsy showed and what the definitive diagnosis actually is. An excisional biopsy is usually done in order to make sure that nothing else more serious is in there and that they try to get clear margins. so sorry you are having to deal with this along with all the other family issues; you have a lot on your plate right now

thank you for the kind replies. I deleted my earlier post because I guess I am not sure what my diagnosis is.I know for sure she said "positive for cancer" I know she said Lobular, she mentioned radiation, I mentioned my heart issues. I will just wait until after Tuesday to see what else they say.

It would help if your could put your original post back up.  It's hard to answer when there is no post to read.  Everyone here is very helpful, so you came to the right place.  Make sure to get copies of any reports the doctor has.
