"Thank you to everyone for sharing your stories- they are so helpful to so many. I'm sure many read who don't post, so know your voice carries much farther than it may seem"
So true.. I read every post....but rarely reply ... dx ... 2/9. BMX on 5/6 .... so other than anxiety ... not much to share yet!
-
vol4life - Welcome to the sisterhood. Waiting is the hardest part. To help with the anxiety check out the OMG found the cure for stupid forum. It will definitely keep you entertained as you wait for the days to pass. Good luck in your journey!!
-
thanks mjh1!!!!!

Hi vol
Oh Yes, waiting is the toughest. My first moment of calm came the night before surgery...and believe it or not, everything has been so much easier since. Get the cells out...let the cure and recovery begin. Warm thoughts and hugs for you...everyone here helped me so very much.

-
Thanks Robin! happy mother's day to you too.
I'm gearing up for my exchange on May 18th. I'm excited and very nervous about what the outcome will look like. I was ready to put all this behind me and then my next door neighbor got diagnosed with BC a month ago and my sister-in-law got diagnosed last week!! I feel like I shouldn't go near anyone. i also am feeling a little overwhelmed by their diagnoses because now I have to continue to think and talk about BC when I want to put it in the past. And I'm dealing with my emotions about my upcoming surgery. I also feel a big obligation to be there for these women, which I'm happy to do but it's a responsibiity to help them without disagreeing with any of their decisions and without being a "know it all". Since I had what I think is a pretty easy recovery i don't want to give them false hope that they won't have a hard time. I hope I can be the support they need without it dragging me down too much. Hopefully I will be able to be there for them more emotionally after my surgery is over (if I'm happy with the results).

Happy Mother's Day to my February sisters!
Jabec - so sorry to here about your friend and family, but wishing you the best on the 18th.
CNN reported last week that BC rates will increase 50% by 2030...that's 15 years! So if we were 1 in 12 in the 90's, now it's 1 in 8 - so 1 in 4 by 2030????? When will they figure this out????? Much, much more needs to be done.

Happy Mother's Day to my Feb Sisters!
I am sorry to hear of these new dxs. Ugh. What is happening?! As I go thru chemo, I realize this BC is forever in my life. I am going to need to work really hard to feel"normal" again. But I am trying!
My surgery will be in early July. I still havent decided! I need a right reduction and lift, and implant or DIEP on right. The pros and cons of both have me unable to make up my mind. Leaning towards implant cuz I want some summer before back to work in Sept. Am I crazy?
Thinking of all of you, remembering how much help you have been. Thank you, and Happy Day, tomorrow!
Hugs!

Hi Arlene! Like your new avatar!
I have heard the recovery for diep is long. I had bilateral reduction with direct-to-implant. I had some post-op dehiscence, which can be common with the anchor incision (for reduction), but there are waterproof dressings for that!
Hope all is well, and keep us updated with your progress!
-
thanks, jilly! Been dyeing my gray hair so long, figured I'd go blonde during chemo, and stay this way when it grows back.
I am concerned with symmetry with an implant, but DIEP surgery scsres me a bit.
Will talk with my PS in a week, to try to help me decide. I trust him, and think the gummy on the left, reduction lift on right? But then tomoro I will change my mind agsin. Lol
Hugs! Arlene

Arlene - I had premature gray so have been coloring my hair since my thirties. At some point I have to let it go gray, but how? Without it looking like a zebra? I have waist-length hair and want to save it just in case I need chemo one day.
I have heard about symmetry issues with one-sided implant placement. I guess you have to look at the whole picture...would having an abdominal scar bother you? Would it give you a tummy tuck? Are you prepared for the longer recovery?
I would peruse realself.com or the picture forums on this site for before and after pics. You can't always go by the pics the PS has because they will not show you their fails.
-
Oh and Arlene, the blonde looks great on you!
-
thanks, jilly! I have been gray since my 30's, too. So blonde from now on...lol.
I know I wouldlove tohave a shorter easier surgery and recovery, but suredon't want to stay lopsided. Ugh. Decisions.
Today is my genetic counselling appt, maybe that will play a role in my surgery decisions?
Hugs to All
-
Arlene - keep us updated!
Did you also have early menopause? I had a lot of gray in my thirties and had premature ovarian failure at 39. I was put on HRT, for 17 years, hence my bc. Sigh.
My mom had premature graying in addition to early menopause (early forties). Wonder if there's a link?
-
jilly
I had 8 gray hairs in high school. Turned into needing dye by 26. Menopause was at 52, so no connection there. My mom was the same with the hair, and my 28 yo son has a lot of gray as well. Its genetic, but not related to the BC. I did everything "right" First period at 13, first child at 28, "natural" menopause. BLAAAH. Means nothing. Trip neg BC didnt care, and bonked me. Someone Has To Figure This Out!!
Hugs!

Arlene - what's really disheartening is the news on CNN last week. BC rates will increase by 50 % by the year 2030...15 years!!!!! Hello????? They not only need to put more funding towards a cure but what is triggering this in the first place. No one has asked me about my past...what meds did you take, what was your diet like, well water or city water, how do you cook (microwave, oven, etc)...take a look at patterns! I live on a small farm and my neighbor farmer regularly sprays.
My BS ran down a list of 6 items that were related to an increased risk of bc: I fit ONE. I have 4 kids, first one at 17, last one at 34. Smh.
-
oh jilly, i agree!
Is it because I played in the dirt? Or delivered newspapers for 5 years, or worked with solvents in a lab at school and work? I eat right, exercise, watch my weight, try to do everything in moderation. Ugh. I wish evolution would find a way to make breast tissue disappear for all, once we dont need it anymore. That might sound over the top, but it would save us.
Havin crazy toughts

Good morning ladies!! It's been a while. I was scheduled for my exchange on 5/7 but also came down will cellulitis. Spent a week in the hospital on IV antibiotics. Instead of exchange, my expander was removed and replaced with a new one. I have another drain which I hope will be removed today. This journey just gets harder and harder!! Trying to stay positive!! Sending much love to you all!!
