Blondie- I am sorry about having to give your pets up. Do you still have the calico kitten or did she go live somewhere else when you were in rehab?

How wonderful those women are helping you with a grant and a gift card. There are good people in the world, and have found sometimes we least expect do the most for us. Never totally understood that, but find it to be true over and over again. Life has a way of trying to make up for our family sometimes.

Mommy- I got your PM and will check out the site today and see what I can do!

Shellshine- congrats on your son graduating from college!

Okay, this is the "wiring" one, but Sass, now I forget who it was for? But I laugh every time I see this...! You HAVE to have the sound on, to hear his wife... she is just cracking up!

And where do you guys live? Out in the Toolies? I mean you are so FAR from your Doctors'! I would get one closer... You could be sick, and make an appointment, and by the time you DRIVE there, you would probably be WELL again!

Love that little Owl Aly! How have you been?

And SHELLS! So good to hear from you....! Congratulations on that Son of yours! And how is old whats-his-name-husband? I just hope things are going great!

ROSIE!!!!!! Oh don't be afraid to hold back! Ha, ha! Yes Blondie.... ain't gettin no co-operation at all, unless it's from strangers! I wanted to go out there and sit them all down and tell them what they SHOULD be doing, but then I thought, if I could do THAT, then I could straighten out my OWN kids and their problems, so I didn't do nothin'.

Sometimes ya just gotta ignore all that you don't like, or want to listen to and put your hands over your ears, and sing 'la-la, la-..... LAH!"

    image

Kids and family will drive you nuts! (If you listen to them) So just don't EVEN get into conversations that will turn into shouting matches..... I forget what I was talking about....

Shells, yay he's graduating. Now he can pay for dinner out tee-hee. Odd I was trying to find someone in my friends list and saw you and ponder for a few seconds. Then here you are today. Telepathy? Hope you are getting some rest. All the newbie stuff  of Hospice is in the past. Always nice to not be the newbie anymore.

Mel three suggestions. First: they should culture the site. Second:This one is an outgrowth of several years of DS's science research projects. Use each toothbrush only once, then put it in the dishwasher. This means you will have 6-8 toothbrushes in a container. The number depends on how many times a week you run your dishwasher. The project proved that you can reduce contamination on the toothbrush to zero. Plus, it will reduce the bacteria & fungus in the mouth. I wrote all the particulars someplace, if I find it, I will bring it here. May sound yucky, but it doesn't matter who uses the washed toothbrushes b/c the are like new---No contamination. Think in terms of silverware. Once washed any piece is used by anyone else. Does that take the yuckiness away :)

Third:, I had a thrush(yeast )infection after Keflex. Dr.s PCP & ENT worked for about 4 (?) months to get rid of it. High dose and protracted use of Diflucan and Magic mouthwash. ENT finally gave up and said take some probiotics. LOL, I've been a believer and a sporadic user for decades, but didn't try it for this scenario. I took a heaping tablespoon 2-3 times a day. Cleared it right up...............Keflex has been my nemesis for years, but this was the first time it caused thrush. Keflex will never pass my lips again.

The probiotics should come from a very reputable Health food/nutrition store. (not GNC). It will be expensive, but worth it. Also, reduce refined sugar in the diet. Yeast thrives on sugar.

    Yay Blondie

sas - thanks so much for all the tips! I copied and pasted them into a word document so I will remember everything. I was going to write back and ask which probiotic do you use and then saw your second post about the Solaray. I will definitely give that a try. Spoke to the ENT today and he is going to see her on Monday. I really hope it gets cleared up soon because she is pretty frustrated with it. Unfortunately she was also recently diagnosed with PCOS, so we have been trying to limit the sugar and carbs even more now because of that. Poor kid can't get a break...jokes about the bad genes I have passed down to her. Of course the bad part of it all is that now she is worried she will get breast cancer because she has so many of the same issues as me.

Glad your lunch and shopping was fabulous. Your purse has a fine name!!

blondie - so sorry you had to get rid of your pooch.

Hi, to all! Gotta go pick DD up from play practice!

Mel, an ex SIL had that, they put her on metformin, glucophage, really helped her.

Spookie - that's good to know that metformin helped her. She doesn't want to take the pill right now and so far that is the only thing that was suggested...not sure if she will change her mind later in life or not. We're going to try the whole diet and exercise thing to see if that helps. We just found out about it so she hasn't seen a specialist yet, so I will ask her about the metformin. I can't believe I had forgotten about Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" until you wrote it! My DD1 loves the movie "Uptown Girls" which I don't think I have ever watched completely, so I had that in my mind at first until you mentioned the song.

Met was developed to treat diabetes, usually the first one tried. It's an old, reliable drug. It's cheap too, $4 at a lot of places. Can help with weight loss. If diarrhea becomes a problem with it, get the extended release, and always take with food.

There is some kind of Cancer trial using it too. I don't know anything about that, but have seen mention of it here on BCO.

Sas - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I actually was diagnosed with it, too, years ago, hence my DD2 feeling cursed by my genes. I just go back a generation and blame my mom and then I'm off the hook!

Spookie - I have read some about metformin and cancer and it has been interesting. It intrigues me as it makes me wonder if it would be helpful for me. I have some blood sugar issues, but they have not been severe enough for metformin but I do wonder what sort of connection there could be since studies are being done on it. I'm glad you mentioned it because I hadn't even thought of it for DD2 for the PCOS. We seem to be a family of folks with blood sugar troubles, so I won't be surprised if either of my DD's end up having them. Even my brother has prediabetes now.

I am from the school that says there is no such thing as "pre" diabetes. You either have it, or you don't. It's like being pregnant. You can't have a "touch" of pregnancy.

Your best bet would be to start living like you have been dx with it. That could hold off meds and complications for several years.

Suggest checking out the Am Diabetes Association site, friendly helpful people there too. Check Lizzys blog, and AlanS threads.
