Nail Changes From Chemo- Some Lifting

Options

Hey, I finished my last chemo (TCHP) on Feb 10th of this year. I noticed towards the end of chemo my nails starting changing colors and nail bed looked inflamed. Just recently, I noticed some of the top part of the nail where the white is, is lifting. I now have 3 nails that are white about halfway down. My doctor said to soak them about 10 minutes a day with warm water and some distilled white vinegar to prevent infection. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, what did you do to prevent any type of infection? I am so careful with touching things and such because I am terrified of losing a nail! This freaks me out!

I used OPI Nail Envy through Chemo and had no issues with my nails. Well other than a bruise on big toe but I know when I did it.

I'm dealing with the same thing. It started during round 5 of TCHP and now, 17 weeks after finishing chemo all ten nails are in various states of lifting. None of them have fallen off, though.

I had 5 rounds of TCH (should of had 6 rounds only plarelets  drop to low). in 2012. Since then I have been on herceptin evrry 3 weeks with daily  2,5 mg letrozole. All of sudden my big toenail feels pressure. when i looked closely it looks like down one side toe nail raised. when I try to trim it, it splits down the nail. Has anyone else so long after TCH have this happen or has anyone have it happen when only on hercrptin? this is first unusual thing come up. ty

Taxotere did it for me. One round, lost EVERY finger and toe nail. No infections, they just grew back.

I have had a very similar problem with my nails, especially my fingernails. I also have neuropathy in my fingertips. I recently had one 1-day found of antibiotics to prevent infection in some mails which looked like they were going to fall off. So far half of one nail fell off. My fingertip actually felt better after that because some of the pressure seemed to be relieved. I find it has helped to keep my nails as short as possible and to cover them with bandaids on days when they feel especially painful or vulnerable. A friend who went through chemo and now is having herceptin every 3 weeks says to try coconut oil on the nails. I have had some relief with Topricin, a homeopathic cream that is good for nerve pain. I also get acupuncture regularly, and my acupuncturist has been concentrating on my fingers and toes. Hope this helps someone.
