I am only sixteen and my mom has been fighting breast cancer since September of 2013.  It has been very scary and caused a lot of stress for me.  My grades have suffered and I'm not interested in a lot of things I was before.  I have a hard time talking to other people my age because they don't understand since they do not have a parent with cancer.  I'm sure she is going to be fine, but in the back of my head I always worry what would happen if she died.  Does anyone have suggestions on ways to help cope with this for someone my age?

Hi Baileebug, I'm sorry to hear about your moms cancer and really understand how stressful this is for you. Have you tried talking to your school counselor? She might be able to help you find a support group with others who understand. At your age you should only have to worry about school, boys and clothes - certainly not this. What about your dad? He might be able to help you locate someone to talk with . Even a teacher you are comfortable with could help you out. I used to be a teacher and if a student came to me I would have bent over backwards to help. I hope you can talk with someone - it would really help to get it all out.

    Hugs to you

    Nancy
