CA 15-3 result higher than norm. Found result online. Freaked.

Just found my result for CA 15-3 online today.  I ended up in tears. 

Weird thing is, I talked to my onc. nurse today and she never mentioned it.   Should I be concerned?    Does that mean they missed the result or they're not concerned with the result?  How high above normal is it time to think mets ?

    how high? Can you compare it with previous labs? Sure your once tested it before

    Hi Tessa. Try not to worry. They look at a trend rather than a one off high result.

    Also it can be elevated due to otherbenign things, eg inflammation, pregnancy etc

    If it keeps going up & is the hundreds they might want to scan.

    Hope it is just a one off blip for you. Hang in there

    Thanks kt.   It's hard not to worry, but I'll try. 

    My lab result said it should've been "normal " under 29, but it was 44.4.   I'm definitely not pregnant. ( zoladex shut off periods.)

    Since no one called me do I assume they're not concerned?  They put in for a bone scan the same time as the CA 15-3.

    I would say they're not worried at this point. The markers are not accurate for some people too. They're just another tool in the onc's arsenal. So if the next few keep going up they might want to investigate further.

    A bone scan has been ordered? That's good & should put your mind at ease a bit.

    It took 3 years of my markers going up before mets showed (they went down for a bit when I started a new treatment).

    Having said that, chances are your elevated marker is a one off. So don't borrow trouble :) easier said than done I know. You can deal with it IF it everhappens....

    Three years kt?!?   What in the world were you thinking for three years as they kept going up?  Good gravy I couldn't deal with a constant incline.  You are some kind of strong lemme tell you.
