My gosh I haven't checked in in a LONG time and one of the first things I read is Carole saying she wished several of us who are absentee would check in. There is absolutely no way I can catch up on all the daily news, but am so glad to see you all are still here. How did we get from Valentines to Easter so fast? My weekends have been very busy and the time between seems to fly past. For now taking the time to say hello and safe travels to all. Clowning and grandkids are keeping a smile on my face. Without reading it all I just hope we are all doing well. Am especially wondering how Sandra and Mike are doing.

Mimi,
So glad to see you this morning. Sounds like you are enjoying your life in a maximum way. Good for you. We are here on this Earth for many things, but among them is some peace and pure joy. Clowning and grandkids are a most wonderful way to pull peace and joy into ourselves. We really do get prolific here don't we ????
It is likely going to rain here soon. We had such a lovely, lovely day yesterday. Lots of sun and warm temps. Dh and I took a long walk to the golf course here and then came back and stopped at our friend's house. Chatted for a good long while -- and then walked home and had supper and evening chores.
Not exactly thrilled about the rain, but it is Springtime now and this is a lot of what happens this time of yr. so can't be too upset. It is what sets the stage for Summer. I am just hoping we have a nice one this yr. Not too, too hot or too much humidity. Asking for a lot in a way. We ( maybe lots of people can identify with this ) are never quite sure anymore since the "weather change" just what we will be getting -- any yr. All we can do is hope.
Joan how is everything going for you? When does school let out for you ??? Waving at Blondie and Cammie, Puffin, Carole, Wren, and everyone. Here's hoping you have a wonderful, marvelous Monday.
Blessings

Greetings, Mimi! Glad you have a smile on your face!
Interesting quote, Jackie. Not sure what I think about the message. Hm...
Rain, rain, rain is our forecast for this week. Should have lots of opportunity to get indoor stuff done. Today I'll probably catch up on ironing. DH is off to the dentist in a town about 30 min. from here. I actually let him drive my car in the rain!
My oldies complaint is that a 72-yr-old muscle in my back has decided to call attention to itself. I'm sitting very upright in my chair with two pillows behind my back. Turning over in bed at night is a challenge. It takes me back to my recovery from breast surgery, figuring out how to turn and get up and make movements with the least pain. Not sure what I did to upset this muscle. Warned dh last night that he may have to vacuum.
Have a good Monday, all.

Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting. -Elizabeth BibescoCarole, what this meant to me is that I should give for the right reasons -- because it is the right thing to do. Because we should all help someone if and when we can -- and that now ( if you can ) is always the right time. It also means that I need not pat myself on the back or make sure anyone else necessarily is aware that I have done something but that we are all here to help our fellow beings in whatever way we can -- even if all we have is a kind word for someone today -- or a smile, or a "job" well done bit of recognition.
It also means to me that when someone else does something for me, or gives me something --- that not forgetting their kindness and care is a great way to be just grateful that someone cares about you and cares about helping their fellow traveler. When you behave this way I think it is easy to let paying it forward become second nature.
There are situations where I think it is nice to talk about having done something for someone. Not to pat yourself on the back but it helps us to know that the ideals we feel able to live up to too are shared by others we care about and respect. It just helps give you the sense of being on the right track in life. You stay aware of a universal love for man-kind with way less conditions and problems since the world is sometimes a rough place to be -- especially lately.
Interesting about your back Carole. I hope you find a good fix. I have been having 'slight' issues with my neck. At first I thought it was due to falling asleep in my recliner with one of those neck pillows. Not the kind that actually curve around your neck ( maybe that is what I should have had ) but the kind that is a straight roll. One place seems to not want to give up being a bit achy. So.....I've started to wonder if maybe I actually spend more time here on the computer than I should. I think I will try exercising my neck muscles a bit more and see what that might do.

Good morning (or almost afternoon)
Minus two- I agree being a vegetarian is much easier than vegan, but that's just part of the problem. I have found literally hundreds of vegan recipes on line that are easy to make. The problem is some of them call for oil, or sugar, or flour, etc and with my DIL, the flour has to be organic and unbleached, and no way will she add sugar or oil to anything. There is such a long list of "forbidden" ingredients that it really limits the options. I have made as many vegan meals as possible when I am there, and always leave a few new recipes for her to try. Whether she does or not, I don't know.
Mimi- good to hear from you.
Happy to say lunch with my GS and his girlfriend went well. My DD says when they went to dinner with her, she was a nervous wreck and her hands shook the whole time. So before we ever went in to the restaurant, I said to her "This is not a lunch to see if I like you, or one that you need to 'pass'some test. I already like you because you make Michael happy. This is just to have fun and get to know one another a little" It worked. She relaxed, and laughed, and talked. I told her some funny stories about the family, and we had a great time.
I am off to shop for myself today. I thought I had a full wardrobe here and have realized I do, but it is a winter wardrobe- all long sleeves, jeans, etc. I need some short-sleeves and capris. So I am going to stick some stew meat in the crockpot and off I go
Have a great Mon

Carole, I'm dealing with the same back issue, did nothing unusual this morning, just walking across the living room and lower back muscle just went into a spasm. I've taken ibuprofen, am alternating my sitting and walking around the house, and just heated up my microwave back cushion. It feels so good to just sit, but I know I have to keep getting up and moving around.
Mimi: brought a smile to my face to see your post, good to hear everything is going well for you, we do worry about people who disappear for awhile. Recently a friend wasn't answering my emails, I sent her son an email and he told me his mom had been admitted to the hospital after she fell and laid on the floor unconscious for hours. -
where did all the posts go? Is it just me or did something happen to this thread?
-
Checking to see if posting works now.
-
posts are working on my end.
-
It was most of the threads. They seem to be working OK now.
-
Yes! We are back in monkey-business...... I mean business....
Mi-Mi! Good to see you again.... I'll write more in the morning..... This day was very traumatic without being able to HEAR from you guys! Ha!
-
Hmmm, I didn't see anything going on here. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention
.Jackie.
-
jackie - for awhile today all the previous posts had disappeared and anything we posted did not show up either. Weird.
-
Hi Carolholst.... I enjoyed reading your input. Not only was it informative regarding your home followup, but was uplifting to hear you say such positive things that you have on your to-do list including your car

I wish you well.
-
Minus, thanks. It seemed nothing was happening here which I find really weird. I really don't have a special magic computer or anything....but that said, I didn't see as much as I thought --- so guess I put it down to a "quiet" day for some reason. Well, just glad everyone is back and thinks are working ok.

Mimi so glad to see u n know u r making the kiddies smile
Carole sorry bout the back issues, getting old sucks
Waiving to everyone who
Ok my 2 cents, i dont care what people do n never would tell someone how to raise their kids but, for me it is like imposin u r beliefs onto a child that has no say n depends on their parents to do right by them..
Little story, my friends daughter is vegetarian, has a 2 year old that she is raising that way, the fsther has no choice if she is cooking but if she isn't around he will make regular food 4 himself, anyway thery were at a party with the family including kids a little older then the 2 year old. Well he has his food n they have theirs, snd decided to "share" it with him, a hamburger no less, then they told their mom, well my friends daughter freaked out screaming at the kids, then decided to sit down n have a conversation with them explaining why he isn't allowed to have hamburgers n like, they had not a clue. So my point is u can control anything u want, but when the kids get out of u r control in preschool or school, they will do what they want n eat what they want.

I don't think a vegetarian lifestyle is unhealthy if the cook knows how to get enough protein into the diet. Most vegetarians eat eggs and drink milk. Vegans, however, do not do either. I think it would be difficult to eat a balanced vegan diet since little kids need extra protein. One GS would not eat meat until he was about 7. Just never wanted it. Loves vegetables; his favorite veg is parsley. DS would joke that he was the only voluntarily vegetarian child in the town. They feed him nuts, peanut butter and cheese.

OH Chevy...I just loved that bra planter! How cute!
Puffin and Carole...Sure hope the back quits acting up for both of you. Those aching backs can make routine chores hard...not to mention those fun things that we like to do! Sending healing vibes your way!
Mimi...so glad to see a post from you. You WERE missed.
Anne, I loved the way that you handled the luncheon and made that little gal feel so comfortable! That just shows what a caring person you really are!
I'm off to run some errands and get some groceries. Our Tuesday night golf league has a fun "kick off" scramble tonight if the rain stays away and I want to go out a little early and hit some balls before it gets started. That means I need to get off her and get my jobs done!
Everyone have a good Tuesday.

Character is the product of daily, hourly actions, words and thoughts: daily forgiveness, unselfishness, kindnesses, sympathies, charities, sacrifices for the good of others, struggles against temptation, submissiveness under trial. It is these, like the blinding colors in a picture, or the blending notes of music, which constitute the person. -John MacDuff

Morning all,
There is a VERY mild rain -- mainly little sprinkles. The weatherman said most of the moisture would stay up in the air and so far ( knock on wood ) he seems to be right. Un-fortunately even when those stop we are not likely to have sun. Seems there are heavy cloud covers and the sun just might not be able to break through most of the day. I do hope it will at least lighten up.
Blondie,
I agreed with your story. We can only 'indoctrinate' our children so much but we cannot police every interaction. Then again, I honestly think the best parents are firm but not solidly rigid. Variety being the spice of life, I hope most of us, and most of those to come will be able for the most part to include choices. Our whole lives actually are FULL of choices -- so I think starting early is all for the better. But then again -- I admit, no one ever gave me an award for my parenting skills.
Here's to a good day for all. Thinking of you.
Blessings

I was diagnosed three weeks ago, age 63. Staying positive and thankful. Waiting for decisions on chemo/rad/hormone therapy

welcome NDCi, I'm 63 too. That waiting period until you have a plan is so hard. Have you had surgery?

Mornin, all
Re vegan etc- my son cooks for himself on the weekends, relies mostly on fast food during the week, since he is a coach as well as a teacher and works 12 or more hours often. When he is home, he also cooks for wife and especially daughter, making as good a dinner as he can for his daughter- usually including at least cheese. I found them a recipe for Mac n cheese that uses nutritional yeast instead of cheese. Lu loved it, but Anna insists on "modifying " it by adding Greek yogurt, and whatever veggies she has on hand t
hat she can purée. Nice idea, but it totally changes the taste. And it's not like Lu doesn't get enough veggies without "sneaking" them in. When my GS#2 was small, he was a very picky eater, so I used to make him chicken nuggets using puréed broccoli instead of egg to hold the breadcrumbs on. I would make about 100 at a time, and they would be gone before I could freeze half. All 3 grandson's devoured them. My DIL used to be on my son all the time for eating too many "processed" foods until he pointed out that all she eats as "meat" is totally processed to look and taste like real meat. Now she eats very little soy and is very careful about how much soy Lu gets.
My son is very good about giving Lu choices. His wife announces it's bath time and then goes to pick Lu up and Lu pitches a fit. Rob will say to her "are you ready for your bath? " when she says no, he says, "ok, one more song in the movie, then bath, ok" and she happily takes his hand when the next song finishes. I think he is more aware to do this because Mom is so controlling about everything.
Ladies, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I go to the BS tomorrow for a pre- op visit, then have surgery scheduled for early Fri morning. He calls it "cleanup surgery" under my right arm. He left little pockets under each arm for reconstruction, which I have decided not to have. Under the right arm, the pocket has has become full and somewhat painful. I have to wear a bra at all times to keep pressure on it or it becomes very painful. He says the surgery takes about an hour, is out-patient and healing is very quick. He says it's partly lymphedema. Just hope he is right about the recovery, and that it doesn't make my arm worse. Most looking forward to: sleeping without a bra!

NCDi
Welcome ,welcome. So glad you found us. We are a 'little' older but still chock full of life. Waiting is sort of difficult but once you know for sure what you are going to be doing and have that plan established, and are moving ahead you be back in charge. Staying cheerful and positive helps always. This disease has pitfalls -- that is why our door is always open with the welcome mat out. Despite that -- as a rule, life goes on and we are here to walk with everyone -- no matter what the phase.
Hope you will come often.
Blessings

Hi NCDi! I'll bet you are from North Carolina, and your name is Di? Anyway, good to have you here! So you have not had your surgery yet? You will get a lot more information after your surgery and your final pathology report.... Just don't worry. I'm WAY older than you.... was diagnosed when I was 72.... I thought I was "too old" to get a mammogran! And that is how they found my small spot....
We're all mostly okay now, on this thread.... just going on with everyday life.... and having fun.... Ha!
Yeah, they won't know about chemo or radiation until after everything is over.... then your "team" will get together and decide by your final path report how they can continue any treatment! I decided not to do chemo..... they said I could if I wanted to, but I said nope.... I'de rather go hang-gliding and take my chances.... And they will do tests, to see if you even need chemo.
Just ask lots of questions, and write down their answers.... keep a note-book of some kind, because as soon as you hear something, if you are like me, you will forget it.......
Good luck.... and let us know what all they did....!
-
Welcome, NCDi. Hope everything goes well for you and you can go on with your life and enjoy the "new normal." We would be happy to have you join in and share your journey with us.
DH and I awoke to thunder today and the bedroom was dark. I would have happily stayed in bed, but he got up. Tues. is one of our go to the gym days. So I got up, too, a little disgruntled over his discipline! It has rained again all day, mostly light rain. Our phones have come alive several times with bad weather warnings about the danger of flash floods.
I spent part of the day ironing and now have an empty clothes rack in the laundry room, where I hang the clothes that need some touch up ironing. They hang there until I get around to them.
Anne, I hope everything goes well with your surgery and that you get some relief. Sleeping in a bra does not sound like fun.
Hi to everyone.
-
Hi ladies,
Welcome to all the new ladies.
Gared----Happy belated birthday
I have not been able to get online for the past few weeks so I am trying to catch up on all the posts
Will be back later.

Anne - hope the surgery goes well Friday and hope it's not truncal lymphdema. I have to wear a compression bra 24/7. I wear sleeves for any exercise or repetitive work and add gauntlets for flying. Carole's right, it's really a pain sleeping in a bra but it if keeps the LE from progressing to my arms, I'll do it. I am sooooo not looking forward to water aerobics this summer in a compression bra & sleeves.

Well, now I think I am this evening experiencing what you all were talking about yesterday. I am able to type my message but the tool-bar takes its time popping in and while it is missing -- my font looks different --- more like a typewriter font of some kind. I don't know that I'm getting any additions to my "favorites", and the problems forum that the mods had is missing from my favorites list. I was able to finally let them know of the difficulties, but not the regular way.
It is interesting, though quite frustrating. Guess I will be hoping that at least by the morning I will have everything back as it was -- hope, hope, hope.
Talk to you all soon.
