Hi. I'm 18 years old, and I found a lump in my right breast last week. I got an ultrasound that showed it was a solid mass and was over 4cm. It is not red or painful, and it cannot be moved. I just had a biopsy done this week. Is it likely to be cancer? I also have pcos, which I know can sometimes increase that risk. I take birth control pills. The doctors seemed very worried about it.

Hi 18andscared, welcome to Breastcancer.org. We are sorry that these recent breast changes have brought you here but we are glad that you reached out.

It sounds as though your medical team is being responsive and acting quickly to assess the mass you've found, and that's a great start. Until you have the biopsy results, we hope that you'll be reassured by the information at the main Breastcancer.org site called What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas, where you'll learn that there are many other benign masses, including some that are especially common among women your age.

Hope this helps! Please let us know how everything goes.

I'm waiting too 18, I'm 32 years old. When I was in my early twenties I had a big cyst, I mean it was big like golf ball size, maybe bigger, I had Breast implants at the time so the surgeon didn't want to do a fine needle aspiration. I remember him looking at it on the screen and telling me because it was round etc that he was ok with it just being left alone. What I remember the most was he told me "at your age the chances of you having Breast cancer are about the same as a donkey falling on your head when you out walk out of this office" Hold that thought and call your doctor if you're worried, have them go over the radiology report with you, I just called my surgeon thee results weren't ready but I did ask her to go over a any notes the radiologist made, calmed me down a little
