Mommato, thanks for the update. It sounds like you feel comfortable with your decision, and that's important. I'll probably have my surgery before then, so I'll post and let you know how the recovery goes. FWIW, I was glancing through my journal from last year (when I had the laparoscopic surgery to remove one ovary and both tubes). The day when I was surprised that I still needed to walk slowly was just 5 days after surgery. So I must have been feeling pretty good overall, since I expected to be walking at normal speed. I resumed my regular long daily walks at 2 weeks and went to the gym @ 2.5 weeks (but honestly, I'm happy to have an excuse to skip the gym). So I think the stated recovery times for most things are probably the worst case scenario. I hope you enjoy your summer with lots of swimming and hot sex. ;) (am I allowed to say that here?) Thanks for starting a great thread.

Hi all...I'm new to this post but not the site. I had a total laparoscopic davinci hysterectomy and oompherectomy on March 2nd 2015 almost 4 weeks ago. I had everything removed uterus tubes ovaries cervix...everything. My recovery period was literally 1 day.. I took pain meds 1 time the day after surgery 2 pills, that's it! I was found to be brca2 positive, so I wanted to lower my risks as much as possible.

Those of you that have had this done, have you noticed any change in your sex drive? That is the one thing that I am really worried about. I'm 50 yo and have been in peri-menopause for years now so none of the menopause symptoms worry me except this one.

    Thanks!

hi Jeanelle, yes I've noticed a decrease in my sex drive after mx & chemo.  But I try to follow the advice of my family doc.  At annual exam a few years ago he saw the start of vaginal atrophy and said use it or lose it.  That's when I initiated weekly date night to the delight of my DH.  Wine or margaritas help, and so does KY.  It's kind of like going to the gym, you may not want to go but once you're there you're glad you did.  Good luck!  ♥

badger, thank you for your reply. We have a very active sex life right now so I just don't want to lose that. :)

Jeanelle - I get testosterone pellets every 6 months. It helps vaginal dryness, interupted sleep and night sweats. My oncologist says ok to them. You may want to google Bio T hormone pellets.

Has anyone else visited the HysterSister's webiste? It seems helpful. Here they discuss what to expect during recovery.

Just had the ooph & D&c. Took about 90 minutes. Shouting out to Mercy in OKC for their incredibly competent and compassionate medical professionals. The moment I enter the door I know I am in good hands and I don't worry a bit. So far the worst part is the pain from the pumped in gas floating up to my shoulders AND getting up at 4 a.m.

Looking forward to getting a clean path report.

If anyone is interested in doing more research on the procedure, I found this book at my library. It's good.
