Im floored. In no way did I ever really think I had breast cancer. I have a 3 year old and a 15 month old. I was pregnant but miscarried in February (which I guess turned out to be a good thing). My breast started bothering me about 2 weeks ago and I went to the dr. On Wednesday after being sick last week. She felt the lump and said she thought it was a clogged duct from the pregnancy that had to work its way out. She scheduled me for an ultrasound just to be sure. I went today and they decided to do a mammogram just to be safe and sure enough they found 2 lumps and some clusters of calcification. I'm in shock. They scheduled me for a meeting with a surgeon Thursday pending results from the biopsy from today. What will the next steps be after that? Should I start looking for an oncologist prior to the appt? I want to be as proactive as I can to get things moving as I'm sure you all feel/felt the same way. They said from the ultrasound that it has spread to my lymph node. Total shock.

I'm so sorry that you find yourself here CareyRob22. I think that what happens next depends on the outcome of the biopsy, there is a very good chance that what they have found is benign. When I was diagnosed, the hospital that I am being treated has a Breast Center, so they coordinated all the appointments with BS, MO, and RO. My hosp also has a tumor board, so all the docs have a chance to weigh in on test results and proposed treatments. I did meet with my PCP to discuss whether I should go to a larger hosp, but he recommended staying put since I only have "garden variety Breast cancer". So a lot depends on where you live, what hospital you are being treated at, and what the biopsy shows. Don't worry about being too proactive at this point, believe it or not, a few weeks is not going to make a difference in treatment.

It is so hard to wait, and believe me that you are in the toughest place right now because so little is known, but once you get your diagnosis and then a treatment plan, you'll feel more in control. Good luck to you

hi Carey I'm 32 and currently waiting for a biopsy result. I was trying to stay off the boards until I find out my biopsy results because I'm a big scaredy cat but I took a quick peek today and seeing your post felt I wanted to reply to you. I wanted to reply to tell you that when I was in my late teens, maybe mid teens it was so long ago, my moms work colleague had just had her second baby, she was 31 years old at the time and she had what they first thought was a blocked milk duct. She was in the UK and luckily her GP/ physician took it seriously like yours did. They found it was cancer. She had chemo and a double mastectomy, five trs of Tamoxifen. This happened in the late nineties. She's since gone back to school and retrained as a teacher, never had any more health problems and excels at her full time teaching job. From what I've read from women on these boards treatments have vastly improved over the last ten or fifteen years or so. Enjoy this beautiful day with your babies, I am going to buy a mop and and take my son to the park maybe
