Fibroadenoma Lumpectomy - What should I expect?

A bit of history.... I first noticed my lump on March 3rd, 2015. I saw my family GP on March 10th and was scheduled for an ultrasound on March 16th. I went into my appointment fairly calm, expecting it to be a Fibroadenoma and to meet with the surgeon at a later date. I didn't expect the 2 ultrasounds, 2 mammographies, 2 biopsies (a fine-needle aspiration and also a core-biopsy) and meeting the surgeon all within about 3 hours. I went back on March 25th to find out the biopsy came back and was benign but that it definitely needed to be removed. It was measured as 2.5 cm in the ultrasound but I feel like it's grown a lot since then. I'm not sure when I'll be going for the lumpectomy and hoping it will be sooner rather than later. I'm just wondering how painful is the lumpectomy? I had some pretty awesome bruising from the biopsy and am now feeling some rather weird pain in my breast.

I'm extremely overwhelmed with all of this because I found the lump 4 weeks after having my 3rd hip surgery (2 on my right, 1 on my left). I'm just not sure what to expect and with all my other issues, this just seems like a slap in the face. Would love to hear from those that have had the procedure or who have any advice!

Thanks in advance,

Nikki

I thought the excision was a whole lot easier than the core needle biopsy. I was sore for a couple of days, but really not a lot. Some bruising. I was allergic to steristrips so they glued my incision

I skipped right to an excisional biopsy, because the tumor was right under the areola and the dr doing the needle punch refused to do it. He thought it would be too painful.

Surgery was minor and I had no associated pain. Unfortunately it was IDC and I had to have more surgery and sentinal node biopsy which is more invasive and painful to recover from.

I had an excision on March 26th. I agree with Melissa that the core biopsy hurt worse! I took pain meds the first day, ibuprofen the second day, and needed nothing after that. The lump I had removed was 3.9 x 3 cm. I've had some spectacular bruising and it's still a combination of yellow, black, and blue, but the incision (about 2 inches long) is healing nicely.
