    Did anyone on here need their DIEP flap rotated at Stage 2? Thats what Dr D suggests for me as I have lost some tissue to necrosis in the lower inner corner of one flap. If anyone knows anthing about this please share. I'm afraid I don't fully understand what this procedure involves. Thanks :-)

    Rotated !!!   I don't think I have ever heard that one before. Is that even possible?  Wouldn't they just  put some tissue from somewhere else in there ?

    Yep, rotated! just found out from other NOLA ladies that it's not that uncommon. They detach the flap and rotate it to get rid of the armpit boob and make more cleavage. Sounds crazy doesn't it?

    That is just the strangest thing I have ever heard. of course I thought taking my belly to make boobs was a little strange also..

    I'm getting ready for my op on Monday. We have two border collie pups (9 months) and I'm wondering how they will react. Our trainer reckons we'll be surprised how gentle they will be. he suggested making sure we let them sniff/ lick/greet me when I get back from the hospital and then they'll be reassured and know how I am. I have my sister and neice coming from the UK to help for a week after that mil & fil are coming over. Unfortunately my Mum & Dad are too frail to make the journey from the UK, but we'll have Skype.

    Has anyone else had experience on how their pets reacted to their confinement?

    thanks - they are sweet but boisterous. Jessie was very good when Amber hurt her paw and was limping and sore for a few days - think I'l have to practice a low growl if they get near.

    Scwilly good luck on Monday, I'll be thinking of you! I have a 10 pound shipoo who is always by my side. Normally she likes to sleep curled up by my chest but quickly learned that she has to stay below the waist! I just told her where to lie down a few times and she seems to get it. I'm not sure if she can smell I had surgery because her behaviour really hasn't changed- she still jumps up on me when I get home from somewhere but definitely remembers the new rules with regards to snuggles. Your pups are adorable!

    Those pups are adorable!!!! 

    I haven't had the DIEP surgery yet but when I came home from my mastectomy last year my dog (a Shiba Inu) was really gentle and didn't leave my side. He sleeps on the floor and would sleep on my side of the bed and follow me around. I don't know how he will react after I come home from DIEP (hopefully in the fall) but I am sure he will be gentle. 

    I think they can feel if their owners are not at 100%.

    I used to have a border collie, but now we have two Siamese cats. They came running up to greet me when I came home, but soon realized that something was off, and rather kept their distance to start with.

    Normally they follow me everywhere, and are all over me as soon as I sit down! :)

    I was really worried about one of them leaping onto my tummy at night, sleeping in my rented recliner in the lounge! .... but it never happened! :)

    hey everyone

    surgery went very well. Took 9.5 hours. So longer than expected due to rad scar tissue on left and mastectomy scar tissue on right . Surgeon cleaned all that out. I was in the hospital until Monday, so glad to be home. Pain is controlled, which is good. Surgeon says everything looks like it's suppose to. I have to say he really done a wonderful job. I just get tired very easily. So I have to keep reminding myself it has only been1.5 weeks! Thanks for all your prayers!

    Blossom40, so happy you are home and resting! I found recovery to be very slow but at almost a month post op I'm feeling much better. I still can't sleep on my preferred side but at least I'm sleeping. I hope you are comfortable and rebound quickly!

    Update!

    My surgery was Friday the 27th. I was discharged on Thursday April 2nd. Surgery went really smooth, according to all of the surgeons. I ended up with a TRAM and a DIEP. TRAM on right abdomen and DIEP on the left. They ended up having to put mesh in my abdomen because it tore. Had a rough time regulating pain medicines afterwards. I was on the Morphine pump every 8 minutes, but it wasn't cutting it. They changed me to Dilaudid pump and that was better. My problem was I would fall asleep and get behind on the pump and then wake up in major pain. It was almost better to be off the pump and on round the clock pain pills. I have 4 drains. They are hardly producing anything so I'm pretty confident they will come out on Thursday's follow up appointment. Although, my right breast drainage is very dark red in color. Hopefully it will clear up some before Thursday. Yesterday I was able to shower alone, dry my hair and put on makeup! I also went from pain pills every 4 hours to every 8 and today every 10! It's amazing how much better I am from day 9 to 10! Thank you for all of the well wishes before surgery. I've learned so much from all of you!

    Alycallie, I'm so happy your on the recovery side! Your coming off pain meds very quickly- wow! I'm still taking one Tylenol before bed. I hope your drains are removed thurs- you will feel so much better!

    Hoping continued quick recovery, but don't push yourself too much, hugs

    Hi Everyone

    I'm now on day 4 following my op on Monday, and due to go home this afternoon. Everything went well and though I'm very tight and sore the pain is doable - especially with the pain meds. I've been walking around and also sat in chair most of last few days. So far so good, My lovely sister is flying in tonight and so I'm going to be well looked after. She's a nurse/midwife so will keep me on the straight and narrow. Best of luck to those due to have their ops next.

    Hi Everyone,

    I am just catching up on the posts since March 26 and I realize that my recovery has really been pretty easy. I came home in 3 days and was off oxy after 2 days at home. I used Advil for a few days after that but not regularly. I slept in a recliner for 3 nights and then was back in my bed. I had 2 out of 3 drains removed 6 days post op and could begin sleeping on my right side and the final one removed today-20 days post. I go back to PS next Thursday and hope he will clear me to go back to work on April 20 after 4 weeks. I am still tired and my stamina is is not not great but I am hoping to get more exercise next week. I have been doing a few things around the house and I am really suffering from cabin fever. I just want things to go back to normal. Tonight I can finally sleep on my left side!
