Anyone else waiting for results this weekend?

So I had my biopsy today, much different from 2 years ago. Breast surgeon with 30 years experience isn't too hopeful, saying birad 5 with less than 15% of not being malignant. She placed a clip which with 2 previous biopsies I've never had to have. This is a very rectangular looking mass, taller than wide, with lobulated borders. She said highly suspicious and is pissed that breast center stated this was an older, stable, benign mass when she knows it wasn't there when I saw her last May. Looks nothing like my fibroadenoma, or any one she has ever seen, but I'm still hoping it is just a wonky one. Almost lost my 13 year old diabetic dog 2 weeks ago, who is more like a daughter after having 5 sons, lost and buried my mother in law this week, and now more negative news today. Anyone out there?
-
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother in law, your doggie daughter's poor health and your suspicious mass. When it rains it pours. From experience, the waiting is the worst part. I'm sure other ladies will chime in to agree with that. When do you get the results? I suggest you do something nice for yourself this weekend. Go out for a fancy dinner, catch up with girlfriends over a few glasses of wine, take a nice drive to see the wild flowers in bloom, anything to keep you distracted. Good luck and I'll be thinking of you.
-
Thanks, Sunflowercat. I feel lucky knowing I only have to wait until Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Very fortunate to have already been in the care of a breast surgeon who worked me in so quickly for a biopsy and making sure I don't wait too long for results. The waiting is the hard part! In the past I have waited a whole week, and I know so many women have to wait even longer.

Hi,
I'm waiting for test results. This is my third time having a biopsy, but this is a little more scary. Biopsy schedules were rearranged to move mine up and axillary biopsies were also done because the extra mammograms showed enlarged lymph nodes. The biopsies were done on Tuesday, 4 days ago, and I am still having trouble lifting my arm and my breast is about double it's normal size and extremely painful. I was told that I wouldn't get test results for 7-10 days and maybe longer because of the Easter holiday.
Is it normal to still have so much pain and swelling?
-
Gina - sorry about the wait. Try and enjoy your holidays (easier said than done). It's pretty common to have pain and swelling after a biopsy. Have you been icing your breast and/or taking any IBU? I was given a breast ice pack at my biopsy and told to use it for 20min every hour for a few days. If you didn't get one of these you can buy them at any store that sells nursing supplies. (Lanisoh TheraPearl or Avent Thermal gel pads will do the trick and designed to fit in your bra.) I also only wore a soft stretchy camisole type bra for about a week after. As long as the biopsy site isn't red, oozing and you don't have a fever you'll probably be ok. Can you get your husband or someone to give you a gentle back/shoulder rub to help relax the muscles and restore your range of motion? Sometimes the odd positioning in those biopsies is the real culprit of pain. And if you're really concerned about the swelling don't hesitate to call your surgeons office and ask them about it. Hope you're feeling better soon.

just realized you're both Gina's! Haha! That second post was directed at Gina4h.
-
Gina4h, hugs and prayers for you. This is my 3rd biopsy as well, and this one if the most painful and despite icing I woke up with major bruising. Sorry that you have such a long wait. I was told to call if I had any swelling or pain that seem more than normal. If it's something you feel is too much a call might be enough to ease you.
Sunflowercat, that is useful info for me as well. My doc didn't say anything about icing after the first day. I didn't even think about it today.
-
Gina - both of you - do try the icing as well as wearing a sports bra 24/7. I found that helped a lot after all of my biopsies.
I know that with Easter and Passover this weekend there may not be as many friends available to hang out with and provide distraction during the wait. It can be really tough at times like this. Try, if you can, to embrace the fact that you don't yet know if you have a malignancy and savor that.
Gina 72, I'm so sorry about both your dog's illness (I do get that) and your MIL. My thoughts are with you - and I wish I could do more.
Hang in there, both of you.
Sunflower, I hope you're healing well and taking it easy.
-
Thank you, Hopeful. Just having feedback is extremely helpful and greatly appreciated! I am trying to savor every moment until the phone rings with results, just in case I have a bumpy road ahead. I actually find it comforting that it is so quiet here.
-
Hi, I had called the breast assessment centre but they just said an infection was unlikely and swelling was normal. Finally went into urgent care anyway and I have an acute infection. Intra muscular antibiotics today and tomorrow plus oral antibiotics and if the swelling has not gone down by tomorrow afternoon, I may need to be admitted to hospital. Typing with my left hand cause my right arm and hand are too swollen:(
-
Thank you Hopeful for the suggestion about gel packs that fit bras. Couldn't find one of those, but my daughter got some smaller squares and they fit in my bra much better. Wearing an old stretched out cotton bra that both the swollen breast and ice pack fit into. Don't care that the other side is gaping. Comfort first!

Seeing my 3 year old granddaughter for a bit and listening to her say "I love you grandma" brightened my day!
-
got my MRI results today--all clear!

Gina4h, ouch! I'm sorry to hear it's infected, but so glad you called and got seen. Fingers crossed it will, heal up and you won't require a hospital stay. Hope you're feeling better soon!

There has to be some middle ground between expensive American health care and free but inaccessible Canadian health care.
I am at urgent care again waiting another 2-4 hours because the majority of Canadian doctors do not work after 5 or on weekends - ever! There is a clinic on the other side of the hallway with 40 physicians, but all of their patients that need to see a doctor are waiting to see the ONE doctor in urgent care. The family practice that I go to has 10 doctors but they don't do call either. Many Canadians cannot even find a family doctor, so of course they come here too. In a city of 500,000 there are about 10 doctors working this weekend other than the skeletal staff in hospitals. The doctor I finally saw yesterday was so rough that my breast would have been bruised even if it wasn't infected. This system needs to be fixed. It's hard enough waiting for results without this additional pain and frustration.
-
Hello, ladies. Results surprised my breast surgeon by being another fibroadenoma. She said she has never seen one so hard, tall, and angular, especially in an almost 43 year old. With this being the second one to appear after age 40 in close proximity I will be seeing her again soon to discuss further. Prayers to everyone fighting and those in waiting.

I had a mammogram and an ultrasound because of abnormal lump and lympnodes also a biopsy redults came back benign reactive however an MRI is requested and the lumps must be removed in two months the waiting is making me so stressed because no one will take the time to listen to me. I had nipple discharge they not concerned but I am due to family history I am besides myself as J do not know why the MRI is requested.
-
Gina, sorry about infection and Fibroadenoma, but B9 is still good. Holidays are a difficult time to wait - no staff at clinics, delayed results, all make everything more difficult and drawn out.
Welcome to BCO jemm. Waiting is a difficult time.
Your biopsies coming back benign is good news. The MRI may be just your medical team being careful and wanting to ensure they have not missed anything, which is great to have a caring and thorough assessment.
Hoping your problems are cleared up soon.

My doctor called me from home just now. I have cancer and it has spread to my lymph nodes. I have probably had it for awhile. I had a deep vein thrombosis last September that was thought to be caused by a broken leg, but my doctor says they need to re-evalute that. It was more likely to have been caused by my cancer.
-
Oh, Gina, I'm so sorry. I know you must be pretty shell shocked right now. I'm praying that there isn't actual metastasis.
-
So saddening to read this. Hoping it's not any more advanced and that you are in good hands.
-
I am waiting on the oncotype test score.
-
I'm crossing my fingers for a low, low result, Suzanne. Do you have any idea how much longer it might be? It seems like you've already had quite a wait!
-
Gina, I just re-read your post and want to apologize - I was reading it that maybe they were thinking the broken leg was due to bone metastasis. Instead, I'll bet they're thinking the clot was due to the fact that cancer tends to increase risk of blood clots? If so, that's a very different story. I'm SO sorry if my response panicked you.
I know how frightening it is to have it already in your nodes; I've been in your shoes and that was what REALLY pulled the rug out from under my feet, as I didn't even have a palpable lump but there it was - in my nodes. It's definitely a blow. However, it's not the end of the world.
Once you know your pathology things will become more clear. In the meantime, I'm sorry to have added to your burden.

Hi Hopeful, Don't worry, I just read both comments so didn't have time for the first to sink in. I was reading through "stupid comments" and some made me laugh out loud - just what I needed. I recently lost my husband (it will be 2 years on June27) and have gained a lot of experience in stupid comments. Now it's time for some new onesboth from me and to me.
oops - I didn't mean yours.
-
Gina4h I am sorry you got this rotten diagnosis. You've certainly had it rough with the passing of your husband and now this. Please keep us posted. You're in my thoughts!
Hugs
Nancy

Dear Gina - thank you for your understanding; that is very kind of you. I am terribly sorry for your loss. And that you've already had experience with the amazing things people say at the most terribly difficult times. I'm glad you at least got some comic relief from that thread on stupid comments. There are some REAL stunners there, aren't there?
If you need to 'talk' via PM feel free - there's also a thread for those of us who are node-positive. I remember way too well how I felt when they showed me the suspect node.
Take care - I'm sending you lots of support and hugs.
