I had my excisional biopsy today. I was terrified of being under general anesthesia but everything went smoothly. No nausea at all. I'm extremely sore but I'll get over it. the most difficult part was finding an IV site!

My surgeon said everything "looks ok" but I'll get my full path report next week at my post op appointment. The hospital actually will be setting up my patient portal account in the next few days so I'll probably be able to see the results before my appointment.

Just wanting to thank everyone who has given me advice and support up until this moment!! These moments are scary no matter what the outcome is and I'm so grateful that I found this site to arm myself with information, hope and rationality.

The hardest part will be not being able to lift my 20 month old, who happens to be such a mamas boy and obsessed with the boob (yes I'm still breastfeeding lol).

    Hi ANG,

    I am glad your surgery is over and you came out well. I was afraid too. Felt kind of silly about it afterwards but I don't like being put to sleep. Let us know how your doctor visit goes.

    thanks for responding! I feel a little silly too, I'm young and healthy so I really was a good candidate but still I think I'd be "that one" that doesn't wake up! I'll be sure to update!

    You were right to have concerns, general anesthesia certainly has some serious risks. I had my excisional biopsy today, and I agree it is such a relief when surgery is finally over. I found the experience not bad at all and so far less painful then my precious stereotatic biopsies for calcifications. If you don't mine me asking what were they doing your biopsy of. Hoping yours and mine will be B9.

    I'm so glad the surgery went well! Fingers crossed for good results.

    I know how it is having a young one wanting to be picked up. That'll be tough, but you can always substitute snuggles instead of "upsies" as my son calls it :p

    my excisional biopsy was of a 2.5 cm mass in the upper (very high, almost the chest vs breast high) inner quadrant. I'm still lactating and have extremely dense breast so everything was obscured on mri and mammo and ultrasound found nothing but I had an obvious palpable lump so the surgeon wanted it removed and checked. it turned out to be a fibroadenoma and she was able to take the whole mass out. Praying for your good results!

    Thank you :) I actually ended up with another surgery Easter Sunday to drain a baseball sized hematoma! It swelled from nothing to a baseball in a matter if a minute and I was not even lifting my son, ! I turned my body a felt a pinch and the rest is history. I called My breast suregon and she actually asked me to text her a picture of my bReast so she could figure out what she wanted to do. She called right back and told me to head to the er and that she would be booking the OR. i thought it would be drained with a local anesthetic but i was put completely under with general again! i was kind of looking forward to seeing an I&D performed (I'm a nursing student and i love that stuff ;)) Before this procedure she did tell me that the path results from the biopsy indicated a fibroadenoma. I had my original follow up appointment moved up a few days because of the complication.


    On a funny note, when I woke up from the second surgery, it seemed to go by so quick that I actually asked them if the surgery had started!
