Hi, I'm 4 months out from my bilateral mastectomy and my range of motion in one arm is limited. I can't extent my arm from my side to my head. I have been going to PT for 2 months and no improvement in that area. I have improved in other ROM aspects. No Chemo or rads needed. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Hi Myroo,

For me it took awhile, almost a year. I also went to a PT after surgery. I think my body was just pissed off after all that it went through and was tight. I probably was also a little to aggressive with my stretching with my PT so my body could not really heal, I just kept poking at it so make sure you are not doing that. I still stretch anytime I use my upper body or whenever my arm feels "locked up" and I have better range of motion on my "bad" side . Best of luck to you!

Is the PT a LymphEdema Therapist? After surgery it is a good idea to see a LET cor education on how to try to prevent it and get a baseline established 'just in case'. Post surgery all are potentially at risk but not all developed it. Not all PTs have education with LE. My LET guy is an OT (Occupational Therapist) and he is fantastic.
