I got my port last Thursday... I am not allowed to get it wet until this Sunday.. have to leave steri strips on until then.  The tape is driving me nuts!  I want to take it off and I am really tired of not showering...LOL  taking baths and washing my hair in the sink!  The port itself is not bothering me a bit!  Anyone had to leave it alone for this long??

    I didn't. I was told I could shower after 24 hours.

I was told I could get it wet also after 24 hours. But keep it on for at least 4 days

I had to keep it dry. My nurse gave me a waterproof bandage to cover it. We bought more at Wal-greens but also Saran Wrap & med tape can seal it off.

We went away for a weekend and I wanted to be able to partially sit in the hot tub (I did NOT get close to immersing the area however.) and mess around in the shallow end of the pool.

I covered mine with plastic wrap and medi tape and showered - it was fine.

Seems like there is something wrong with your after care instructions. I had a waterproof cover over mine and could shower after 24 hours. I was told not to submerge it in a bath soak or swim for at least two weeks. And I'm supposed to be careful with submersion the day after it's accessed if I don't properly cover the poke wound. My wounds were sealed with a slowly dissolving "glue", so I was allowed to remove the tapes and dressings after 48 hours. I'm allergic to most adhesives so I can't leave them on or I'll get blisters and rashes on my skin. You might want to call the place that installed the port and ask some further questions.
