Meggy,
I will certainly pray for your son. I am also in San Jose and have some first hand experience with teens and the mental health system as well as schools and the IEP process (I am a public school teacher in the SanJose/Los Gatos area). Please pm me if I can help in any way.

Meggy, I am so sad that Gabriel and you have to go through this. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Meggy, my son (on the spectrum) has also developed psychological issues since my diagnosis and the onset of puberty. So far, every medication/treatment plan that we have tried has failed to help him. It is so hard to see our children suffer! Prayers that you, your son, and your family find some healing very soon.

More prayers going out, Meggy. I can think of very few situations that are worse for a parent.
If you have the strength, please fight for his wellness; if you can't do it, find someone else who can.
There is help out there, but finding it is difficult. Society's fear of mental illness is blocking the path to treatment.
I wish you all the best, and in the meantime, here are some ((((((hugs))))))

I pray you son Gabriel is healed ... such a sad situation for you both.

Hello my sisters, I told my son, Gabriel, that you are all praying for him and it means so much to him. He wants me to tell you all thank you. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
If you have a teen with psych problems...beware of the meds. He went on the Prozac line of drugs (Zoloft, ect) and he became enraged like the hulk and overwhelmingly suicidal. (tried to jump out of a moving car...it makes some teens uninhibited and fearless in a dangerous way.) It may work for some but if you see these signs...think about getting them off the drug. Also, they put him on an anti-Siezure and an anti-psychotic drug, both of which made him much worse...he smashed up my entire house. Now he's on Ativan (don't we all know that drug well) and a beta blocker (blood pressure meds used for psych problems) and it is much better. Beware of the drugs given to teens. Just don't listen to the docs if they say it is not the drug. A child across the street killed himself a few years back while on anti-depressants. Sure he was already depressed but I believe the drug gave him the guts and inclination to do it. He was super well liked..tons of friends...awesome soccer player doing well in school and then he was gone. Just be careful with those drugs and your teen or early teen.
Thank you God for my sisters and for Ativan. Such a simple and useful drug. It has really helped. Please keep praying...we still have a long way to go.

Meggy--I stumbled on this thread tonite. My heart goes out to you. I have three sons. One is 14 and one is named Gabriel. I know I would be asking for help just as you are doing if I were in your shoes. What a wonderful mother you are to seek help this way. I believe in the power of the prayers and faith of many people combined. I will gladly pray for you and your son, and I will ask others to do the same. God be with you and your Gabriel. Love, from Washington
