Bad Reaction to Zometa

i'm wondering if anyone else has had this reaction to Zometa...

After 14 months of Femara, I have developed osteoporosis. My onc prescribed Zometa every 3 months but 12 hours after the very first infusion in early March, I experienced severe muscle pain in my trunk, tightness in my chest, and passed out 3 times that night while going back to bed after using the toilet. It took about 3 days for the muscle pain to go away

I reported these side effects to my onc and he said we will be "holding up on the Zometa", but he also said "I'm not sure that the passing out is related to the Zometa".

I don't know what else it could be...I don't have a history of passing out.

Has anyone else experienced a similar reaction?

Thanks,

Gypsy

I am so sorry to hear this.  I have been getting zometa every four weeks for @19 months.  I know that it helps to drink a lot of water the day before the infusion and also the first 24 hours after.

If you need a bone strengthener and zometa is a problem you can request something else like xgeva (sp?).

(I have felt a little crappy after the infusion, especially after the first one, maybe I would call it mild flu like symptoms, it sounds like you had major flu like symptoms.)

    MusicLover, thanks for your response.

I will ask about Xgeva. I also plan to ask if my treatment could be changed to Faslodex or Tamoxifen. I have dental issues and am afraid of ONJ. Won't see my onc again until May so I have time to ruminate on all of this

I didn't realize you were dx'd almost the same time as me, almost the same dx and tx. Best wishes to you.
