Winter rads 2014-2015

Kayfry - I'm glad you got it done today I know your relieved that you didn't have to extend your treatments. I had heart surgery in 91 to repair a birth defect so at least I know what to expect, not fun but doable and not near as bad as chemo.
Happy Birthday! mm68
Congrats to all the finishers!
-
Thanks, ladies. You're awesome. Ladyb, I haven't had too much trouble with fatigue, but it did hit me tonight, all of a sudden. Weird. I just had to go lie down for an hour, though I couldn't actually nap. Hoping to get past this in the coming week(s).
-
congrat to those who finished this week!! It's been 10 days since I finished boosts and skin elsewhere is looking much better
-
27 of 28 today - 1 more Monday, two more boosts and then I'm done! I think the skin will heal quickly, based on what I'm already seeing from the 5 days off. Have a good weekend, everyone.
-
Yay! CassieCat. Have a great weekend everyone.
-
My best friend of 35 years crossed over 8 years ago this coming week after living with small bowel cancer for a year and a half. It was not easy (it never is) but she had a new husband and 2, eventually 3 grandbabies on the way. When I found this yesterday it was the essence of her. But it also reminded me of all of you, this brave band of warriors. Your courage, patience, humor and willingness to share yourselves over this winter has been remarkable and I thank you. Can't wait to see a smiley face for everyone on Coyote's list
-
Beautiful mqt64. Thanks for sharing it. 😊
-
mqt64, that is quite eloquent. Thanks for including us in that courage, humor & grace. I'm so sorry for that loss, but how wonderful that you are witness to the life of your friend.
-
Very inspiring, mqt64. How wonderful that you hold her in your heart.
-
+1 Very inspiring quote
-
hi, have ant of you lumpectomy ladies seen a difference in shape size and hardness so far? I have read it takes a year to settle but was wonderin
-
mqt64 ~ Those are thoughts we can all embrace. Thank you.I'm beginning to think I'm becoming technologically challenged. I was forced to get a new cell phone that was very different from the former one. It was truly a challenge to get the new format figured out. I can see that I have gotten a bit set in my ways!
It's hard to believe that April is just around the corner.
-
Hi windgirl,
Left side lumpectomy... BS took a big chunk and RADs shrunk it, now D on my right and B on my left. 😡
I'm 4 months post surgery, 3-weeks post RADs. I see the BS tomorrow to seek PS referral. I also heard it takes 6 months or more.
-
Last regular rads for me today! After that, I finish up my last two boosts and then I am all done!
-
Go Cassie, you're almost at the finish line! Love, Jean
-
mqt64-thanks for sharing, I will also pass on to my brave friends who battled cancer before me.
Go Cassie-the boosts are very quick
-
I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!! Last boost this morning, woo-hoo! I took a carb-laden basket of delicious baked goods from the local farm market emporium as a thank you gift. It was funny, because one of my techs lives not far from where I live in PA, and she recognized the basket as an item from Brown's from across the room.
I think the itchy rash may be getting slightly better as of today, and I'm rid of the stickers and lines/circles, yay.
Go Cassie! And to everyone still heading toward the finish line, hang in there. You ladies have been such a comfort and source of wisdom to me throughout.
-
Windgirl - I had lumpectomy with oncoplastic reconstruction (basically, because the lumpectomy was going to be on the inside of right breast, PS thought it better to rearrange the tissue at the same time to "fill in" that area which would make fixing the rest of it easier later on). The inside part has been hard since the surgery. Just when I think it's softening up, it seemed to harden again with the rads treatments. I have 3 regular and 5 boosts left, not sure what condition I'll be in by the end. But PS doesn't even want to consider anything until AT LEAST 6 months post rads. May be able to get away with fillling in the divots with fat injection, but we'll see how different in size right is once rads does it's thing. Patience is the key word in this journey.
-
Kayfry, congratulations! Get your dancing shoes on for one big happy dance! Cheryl
-
Cassie, two more then done! I'll put my dancing shoes out for your happy dance.
-
Kayfry, congrats.
Cassiecat, woot! Woot! Ready to do the Happy Dance.
-
I have been a lurker for over a month. I started my rads March 3rd and have 10 treatments left. I have been going to work right from treatment the whole time so far but wanted to share my faux pas from last week. I put on quite a lot of lotion on my peeling nipple, which soaked through my shirt and looked like lactation. Oops! So, I started to put these over my nipple inside of my bra:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/154370872/lavender-tw...
which has been working really well not just for keeping the lotion from marking my shirt but they are also much softer. These cover my nipple with a little bit of extra room, but I'm thinking about getting a bigger piece of cotton fleece to cover my whole boob soon.
-
Kayfry, Congratulations! Doing the Happy Dance for you.
Cassiecat, Just 2 more and your DONE! Glad your skin is holding up.
As far as boob shrinkage goes, mine is so messed up from the tissue necrosis from the dye and subsequent surgery who knows what it will look like in 6 months but I have heard it takes that long to let things settle. Right now it is misshapen.
-
Great going kayfry! Enjoy nice long rides on your horse with the extra time.
Viceroy. Thanks for sharing that helpful tip. Glad you found relief.
Coyote. Hope you are not having to re-enter the whole Winter Rads group. You've been wonderful to keep the list.
-
go Cassiecat!!! You're close to the finish line!!!
-
Yahoo Kay!!! You made it, welcome to the finish line. All my wishes for a fast recovery.
I'm very happy for you. 😁
Things get better on this side and your "new normal" is ready for you.
Catch your breath and go write the best, most thought provoking book on cancer! (And tell us when it's ready!!)
-
kayfry ~ That's great! Rads are now behind you. Such a relief.Viceroy ~ So glad you have been with us. I hope you have felt encouraged and supported. Will you be back to see us?
WndrWoman ~
I'm pretty sure I'd have hung it up if I had to do that! when I move it forward, I just copy it over as a new post and edit it. I try to do that every couple pages. I'm going to do that now as a matter of fact! Occasionally I search for warriors who should be complete and haven't dropped by to tell us. If I find them online and they have said somewhere that they are finished, I add a smiley. Or if enough treatment days have passed and I can't find them anywhere, I add a thumbs up.

Thanks to everyone for the congrats, it's great to have high-5s from the people who know how it feels to finish the slog of rads.
Mqt64, I'm wondering how things will look in 6 months, too. I have some swelling now on the topside, and around the nipple where the boosts went, pinkness overall and still the patch of itchy rash in the center of my chest. But I have to say, I'm grateful it didn't get worse. I can feel I'm on the healing side now; things are definitely more comfortable than they were about a week ago. I'm sure things are going to "settle" a lot, but misshapen is definitely the word for what I have right now. We'll see . . .
Go, CassieCat!!!! It's so much nicer at the finish line, and you're almost there!
-
Quiggy, thank you for cheering me on and making me smile.
So now it's time to remember what life was like before radsBack to revising my dog book, and off to ride my horse this afternoon, with my big pup riding along in the car. Best Therapy Ever.
I will keep you posted about the cancer-related book that only exists in my head (and in a folder of notes I've started) at the moment, but I very much want to do it.
Did everyone watch the first installment of "The Emperor of All Maladies" last night? Excellent, though hard to watch at times. My son happened to call right in the middle of it (he lives in a different time zone and is an artist, had no idea I was watching something I'd waited to see for weeks). Luckily, we're recording it on DVR. Second installment is tonight at 9 EST.
