Bra question

I was warned to purchase a front-closure bra to wear after my biopsy and did that. Because of the location of my biopsy and upcoming lumpectomy, underwire bras are a no-go, so I've been wearing my sports bras and purchased a nice, soft back-hook bra with normal straps that don't peek out under most necklines. I'm trying to get ready for the lumpectomy and upcoming radiation and was wondering the reason for the recommendation of front-closure bras. My UnderArmour one is comfortable and supportive, but the zipper pooches out at the top and it's not something I could wear to work without it obviously poking thru my shirt now that we're out of heavy sweater weather. (At least, here an AL.)

After reading about all of the lotioning an ointment-application during radiation, I know I'm going to need lots of comfortable bras (and will be hitting Hanes.come tonite), but I thought I'd get a little more educated before I decide how many more front closures to buy and how many back closures I can get away with.

Thanks!

Hi - Just finished 5th week with one more to go of rads! omg, can't wait - anyway the bras that I found easiest and most comfortable to wear were the kind with no front or back closure. Barely There Brand. The best way to get them on is to step into them from the floor up! (they stretch nicely and I've washed the heck out of them) You will be advised to sleep with a bra on and I found I didn't even mind after my lumpectomy. When you start radiation and your skin starts to get "tanned" whatever, irritated, again, you will not want a zipper or anything on your front.

I do wear back closure underwire, just not all the time. Just depends on what I'm wearing - just be comfortable and be aware of your skin changes.

Thanks, Maxie! The back-hook, no underwire bras that I bought are very comfortable, so I'm hopeful that I'll be able to wear them through treatment. I think I'll just stick with the one front-zip that I bought for the biopsy and not spend the money on any more of those.

I hope your last week goes great!

I bought cheap back closure Fruit of the Loom from WalMart. They were comfortable. Good luck with your surgery.

I was reading this platform yesterday and I last night I actually was dreaming about not being able to find a front closing bra !!

At least my brain is keeping me laughing through this.

    :-)

I went back to my front zip for my LX, but am back in a sports bra today and glad I didn't spend the $$ for another Under Armor front zip!

Chico's onlinehas a post-surgical front closure bra. Lots of hooks, but super-comfortable. A bit pricey, I think around $40. But also at Target I found a Playtex back-close bra with decent support. Comes in sizes S,M,L,XL and 2XL for about $20. It was great with the additional gauze padding for my SAVI device.
