I read about so many of you having an Onotype test (is that it?) Anyway, my doctor had a Mammoprint done and it came out high risk.....therefore, chemo. Anyone else had this?

Yes, I had a Mammaprint because my oncological breast surgeon was participating in a study with the company.  Mammaprint has a broader scope of availability to patients because it can be used for both hormonal receptor negative patients and Her2+ patients.  It also looks at a larger number of genes than Oncotype Dx does.  If you would like Oncotype Dx done you can always ask your insurance company if they would cover it (they may not with a definitive result from Mammaprint), and if you are ER+ and Her2-.

I had Oncotype done first with a score of 19 (low intermediate) and then had the mamma print, which came back low. I chose to do chemo anyway.

I had the Oncotype done with a score of 20, than the Mammaprint was done as a backup.  It came back with a score of low risk.  My oncological breast surgeon didn't recommend chemo, just Tamoxifen for five years.  He said he would ultimately leave the decision up to me.  I chose to not do chemo.  Do I second guess myself?  Yes, every day!

So I talked to my insurance and they said if the doctor ordered Mammaprint, they would cover it. However, when I talked to the BS and the MO, they're reluctant. The BS's office states that because the affiliated hospital's pathology department does not deal with Mammaprint, I have to pick up my paraffin blocks and mail them myself. Later the pathologist's office says all of it is not billable and I need to pay on my own. After a couple more back and forth phone calls, I gather that because the pathology doesn't get money out of this (most of work will be done by and reimbursed to Agendia), they're unhappy. Does anybody else also experience this problem? How do you go about it so the hospital personnel doesn't get grumpy?

Hi - I'm new to the boars! I had an Oncotype test and my score came back intermediate - 23. My Onc at MSK recommended Tamoxifen and Lupron injections to bring on menopause and lower my risk - I have Hemochromatosis and she wanted to avoid risk of CMF chemo to the liver. My hematologist (from a different, unrelated hospital) seems to think that is nonsense and that if I need chemo I should go with TC or AC - stronger but better at lowering risk. She recommended the Mammoprint test to make the decision clearer. I have been in a twist agonizing over it, but I think I am going to try to go ahead with the Mammoprint test to see if I can get a clearer answer. If it comes back high I think I will do the chemo. If it comes back low, then I am thinking I will forgo the Lupron injections since I think the risks of that would outweigh the benefit if I am low risk. Any thoughts? This is so hard! If no doctor can give me a "clear" answer, how am I supposed to find a decision I can live with?
