Architectural distortion

edited March 2015 in Waiting for Test Results

my anxiety is so high I am really struggling. I am a 57 year old woman in really good health (or so I thought!) until last Monday when I had my annual screening mammogram. By Wednesday the mammogram report reflected " architectural distortion" seen and additions views were necessary. Friday I had additional views on diagnostic and 3D mammogram, then ultrasound. The architectural distortion was viewed on the dx mammogram but not visible on ultrasound and nothing is palpable. They are thinking radial scar? But want to make sure so they did a stereotactic needle biopsy. The results should be available by Wednesday and then we go from there. Has anyone else had an experience like this ? I can hardly breath.

Yes, over the years I have had several callbacks for architectural distortions. My understanding is that this can be especially common if you have large breasts, as it is often difficult for the tech to totally flatten out the tissue-- so, as I recall, they always did spot compressions and then the distortion disappeared. Ironically, when I did have a problem 4 years ago, there were no architectural distortions on that breast, just micro calcifications.

I hope it all turns out ok for you... I know the anxiety can be really awful!

Long wait and tremendous anxiety.stereotactic biopsy results back tonight. B9, pathology reports fibroadenoma. Treatment may still include surgical excision.

I have very dense breasts and not large (34 B). I too, have "slight distortion of architecture AND postacoustic shadowing. I cannot have MRI for 30 days due to the hormones I take. But, I am worried even though doc thinks its just precautionary to have the MRI. If I don't need the MRI I dont want to have it. I have a large deductible. To get the MRI or not?

The anxiety and worry are too much for me. If it were me, I would have the MRI. From everything I have read, BC, caught early is treatable. I plan to discuss surgical intervention with my physician at my 6 month follow up. If it is something or can be something I want it out.
