It's hard to believe it's been a year since our surgeries. I hope everyone is well. I think of all of you often.

Hi, everyone! Hope you're all doing really well.
I am scheduled to get my implants on March 27th. 😊
-
Hard to believe a year has gone by as we all have moved through this journey. I never thought last year that I would ever make it through it. Thanks to all of you I did. Just completed nipple recon last Thursday. Will get tattoos in 3 months. Had a scare in January when MO found another lump under my left arm. (cancer side). I freaked out! Had all the anxiety of US, biopsy and waiting for results but all was B9! Still, unnerved me and made me feel very aware that the battle is over but not the war. Will be followed closely by MO so another visit in 3 months to recheck.
Hope all of you are doing well and enjoying 2014 much more than 2013!
Many thanks and HUGS to all!

It seems like yesterday in some ways but a distant memory in others - how strange to be one year out? I think of all of you so often and I so deeply appreciated the caring and support from my March "surgery sisters" last year:)
My BMX and reconstruction was one year ago today - WOW...still remember the way I felt at this time last year as I was waiting to go into the OR...I was so scared that they would find more IDC or something else and I would need more chemo...Thank goodness the chemo had done it's job and both breasts were cancer free - YIPEE! Forgive me for a moment of humor but...I don't know what was worse, worrying about what they would find when they did the pathology on my breast tissue or what they would find when they took off my wig LOL:) Since I had completed chemo first I was still wearing a wig and the nurses and doctors at the hospital who I worked with had not seen me without a wig, my wig looked so much like my "regular" brown hair that some people never realized it was a wig but underneath it I looked like a chia pet with spikey gray and white fuzz!
Mamasixtaz - sooooo sorry you had a scare but glad to hear it was B9 - YAAY... I've been considering nipple reconstruction but hate the thought of any more surgery - was it a difficult procedure to go thru?
LKSHER - I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers on the 27th:)
Take care sisters...(((Healing Hugs))) to all of you! Maureen
-
Thank you, Maureen.
-
Wow Maureen what a list that was. I am FINALLY having my exchange in a few weeks. Totally behind compared to most of you - partly was my fault postponing it for one reason or another. How much time did many of you take off of work? I was thinking a few weeks at least.
-
3Mom...glad to hear things are moving along for you:) I had direct to implants when I had my BMX's so my recovery was a little more complicated - it took me about 3 weeks to drive (backing the car up was tough for some reason?) and back to work in about 4 weeks but I'm sure you'll hear more from those who went from TE's to implants on their experience. Good luck, I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers that all goes smoothly for you! (((Hugs))) Maureen

One year since my bilateral mastectomy. Officially one year cancer free
Hugs to all my surgery sisters who got me through the worst if it.
-
Congratulations (((kap))) hope the next year is a good one:)

happy cancerversaries to all!
Thanks Maureen, I am glad all was B9 too. Nipple recon is nothing compared to all the rest and it finally makes me feel whole again. I was awake for it and just a little local but all is really numb anyway. Chatted about music and kids...was out in no time driving myself home. Noted swelling and a slight heaviness the next day but returned to work no time off! They look so good can't wait to get the tattoos.
3 mom I took off 6 weeks for my exchange to implants but I had lifting restrictions and can't work as a nurse with them. Felt fine after about a week. Enjoyed the time off this time compared to the bmx which I probably rushed back to work too soon. Depending on your work you can probably be fine in 3-4 weeks.
-
mamasixtaz...thanks so much for the info on nipple reconstruction...that is really good news, I thought I would have to go "back to surgery" - I hate going under anesthesia and having drains, sounds like I won't have to do either of those things to do nipple recon - YAAY! I am strongly considering it, I like your statement about "feeling whole again"...(((Hugs))) Maureen

Just a quick "Hello" and (((Hugs))) to all the March 2013 Surgery Sisters…it's been two years since surgery - hope you are all doing well!

I was wondering what the best timing is for removal of my left breast. I had a mastectomy on the right on 3/6. My surgeon wanted to do just one because of some existing health problems (autoimmune). I am recovering just fine. The screening mammogram done in late Feb. of my left breast (as opposed to the diagnostic mammogram done on the right) showed no cancer, but I am nervous because the left breast has not felt right since more than a month before my diagnosis: the nipple burns and there is pain extending from there into the breast.
I meet with my oncologist on 3/25 and will have hormonal treatment, Herceptin and probably chemo.
I need to resolve the issue of the timing of my second mastectomy.
I could ask for someone at my cancer center to help me feel sure that the left side is cancer-free, by additional imaging, breast exam, whatever is available. Then I might feel comfortable waiting, but I know that the surgery would have to be a month after chemo.
Or, I could ask for the second mastectomy soon, like the end of the month, and get it over with, if my surgeon will go along with that, since I am healing fine from the first.
Is it unwise to delay chemo and other treatments with this second surgery? Should I wait until after treatments?
I absolutely hate having one breast, but that is partly because the nipple is so sensitive for some reason. it bothers me more than any pain from the incision on the right. I am impatient to get it taken off, but also want to do chemo and other treatments asap.
Any advice? Thank you!
