Hi. Im a new member to this site. Im 32 with a 9 year old daughter diagnosed with triple negative bc which is really overwhelming. My oncoligist has prescribed dipherline injection every three months for five years which has shut my periods. But my surgon who is a well known professor does not agree. I want to become pregnant again after two or three years but these injections will reduce my chances to a large extend. Has any one ever heard of dipherline helping triple negative bc patients? I would be really grateful for any information.

    Hello Han Tagh,

I have just read your two posts and wanted to say I was sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer, medullary breast cancer, with triple negative receptors.

All of us on these threads know how you must be feeling but you can get through this as many of us on these threads show.

I must admit that I had never heard of diphereline injections and I do hope someone will be able to answer your question in more detail. I have looked on line for some information and all I can find is that this drug is apparently used to treat hormonal breast cancer as well as prostate cancer.

I would think the best thing for you to do is to ask your oncologist why she has chosen this. Since you say this drug has shut your periods, I would think it must have something to do with shutting down the oestrogen supply. However, we are not doctors here, so you must get the answer from your own medical team.

Since your breast surgeon, a well known professor, does not agree with your oncologist, you need to get this sorted out, because five years is a long time to be on a drug without really knowing why you are having it.

Medullary breast cancer is one of the rarer cancers, so it could be that there is some kind of special treatment.

Standard treatment for TNBC is usually chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy.

If it were me, I would be asking my oncologist why I am being given a drug for hormonal problems when I have been diagnosed as TNBC.

I hope this helps you and that you will be able to get this sorted out.

You are welcome to join my thread, Calling all triple negative breast cancer patients in the UK, or you can join Calling all TNS, where you may be able to get some help.

The moderators of breastcancer.org may be able to give you more information or telling you where to find it.

Thinking of you and sending best wishes.

    Sylvia

Thanks alot Sylvia for your kindness to reply my question. My oncologist told me shutting periods can help any remaining cancer cells not to develope.Yet his answer did not convince me as I have never heard of it for tnbc.

Are you on it to preserve your ovaries so you could have more kids after the chemo? Luteinizing hormone is used to shut down the ovaries and preserve then from effects of chemo (menopause). Maybe in your case it's used to preserve your fertility and not to treat your cancer?

Thanks dear ink for your reply. At first my surgon had the same opinion as yours but continuing it for five years is something that is hard to accept.
