Greetings all. I spent today's session posing as a whiteboard and begin the first rads tomorrow. Thanks to each of you, I feel ready. Still feel like Dorothy and may need to click my ruby slippers to get through this. I really hope my brown Crocs will suffice.
Cheers,
Hygeia

Hygeia. Those crocs will snap it up. Remember that the first couple of sessions take a little longer. Next thing you know you'll be counting down.

Four more left. Last visit with my RO yesterday, they gave me my discharge instructions, yahoo! I have to schedule a follow up with my MO to get my Tamox RX. Then I have to schedule follow ups every three months, rotating between my BS, RO, and MO. I was hoping to get away with not seeing anyone until my mammo in Sept. Oh well. My skin isn't looking too bad, but my doc warned that it will likely get worse over the next four treatments. Unfortunately, the place where the skin is worst is also where thee boosts are.
-
To Leslie58: So sorry regarding your Mom's dx. Hopefully, since she is going to one of the best treatment centers, there will be hope, promise and good news. Sending prayers, hugs, and love to you and your mom. Please keep updating and if there is anything I can personally do, please feel free to contact me directly : email address: queendixie31@hotmail.com.
Ladyb1234: You're almost there!!
Thank you to all who followed me, congratulated me, tolerated me, laughed with me! I truly appreciate all the support and guidance and care that has been showered on me!
May everyone have a blessed and happy Thursday and continue to recover:)

Good morning rads Ladies, I FINISHED ALL OF MY RADS THIS MORNING!! Chevy please add my smiley face to the roll call list.
For everyone about to finish, I'm waiting for you at the finish line! It's doable, but if you need a little push, let me know, nobody walks alone here!
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
-

Beachbum, congratulations! I had thought it was yesterday and was disappointed when I didn't see your happy post. So glad you are DONE!

It feels like I have so far to go still - 7 regular and 7 boosts. 3 more weeks...

I'll add congratulations too, Beachbum. You must be feeling rather Olympian tonight!
And WondrWoman, thanks for the welcome encouragement.

All my bc sisters still pushing through this crap, you CAN do it! It SUCKS, sometimes it hurts and it zaps your energy but keep moving and before you know it....BAM, you're done.
Strength and hugs to all of you.
-
Way to go Beachbum!!!! Congrats for getting this behind you
-
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, yep can't Thank everyone enough! Finishing rads is so sweet. Now just waiting for the "sunburn" to heal. Is that what they told you too?? Some "sunburn". Yikes.
I did get a very sweet reward tonight, I can see the shore lights from Canada, Cedar Point, and the Islands. Spring is really happening when I can see that. Now just waiting for the ice and snow to melt.............it's been a long winter! I see flip flops!
-
hey...congrats to all who have made it through. Question...what was the best topical cream/lotion/ointment for you? I see rad office recommends eucerin and aquafor but hear clear aloe successes and calendula too. I am on #13 rad with 12 to go + 8-11 boosts. Help!
-
Congrats on finishing up Beachbum, we're delighted for you!
Best of luck to the rest of you amazing ladies xoxo
(( Sending gentle hugs to you all ))

Wino, all of the things that you listed will work fine. I use Eucerin all over, and Aquafor for the really bad red, peeling spots. I don't think that there is one thing that works best, many things work very well
-
Beachbum, congratulations and best wishes as you embrace survivorship
-
Dacre, congrats on completing your treatment, and what a lovely sentiment about the children. The idea of children having to endure these treatments is so heartbreaking.
My boss's 7 year old daughter was diagnosed with leukemia about a year ago and has been undergoing treatments ever since. She's doing well, and her prognosis is quite good, but I know how grueling it has been for her now that I've experienced the chemo myself. This little girl is my inspiration. Her daddy told her about my diagnosis, as much as she could understand, and she sent me a handmade get well card, and he told me she always includes me when she does her prayers. Now I'm not a religious person, but that's humbling. The children shall lead.

Wino, Johns Hopkins recommends using Miaderm lotion exclusively, so that's what I've been doing. I really don't have any skin issues yet (today is #8 of 19 including the 4 boosts), but I still slather the Miaderm on 2-3 times daily. It's very nice, no odor and non-greasy, and has good medical studies behind it. But interestingly, the active ingredients are calendula and aloe vera, plus hyaluronate, so using any of those products alone can't be bad, either. I was told it's okay to use Aquaphor, but they feel the Miaderm is better.
-
Miaderm is what my doc recommended as well. It's gotten high marks from users as far as I can tell. I ordered it from the manufacturer's website, and it's a little pricey, but they offer a money back guarantee. I will take them up on that if necessary.
-
Beachbum102!!!! You did it!!! Congrats and may you continue to live a long and healthy life!!!!
-
Hygeia: It may seem overwhelming at the beginning b/c truthfully it is....Everyday when I was done with my treatment I crossed it off the calendar and all of a sudden, I was 1/3 of the way through, then 1/2 done and then it was only days....there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It's not always an easy path, but with help and support from family, friends, and the ladies here you can do this!!
-
I use calendula, aloe and aquaphor in a rotation. I also do cold compresses of a domeboro solution. 21 treatments down and my armpit is getting worse. 7 more and 7 boosts. Glad I get two days off after today's treatment. At my center if someone's skin is getting bad they might do some boosts and then go back and finish the regular treatments, to give the skin an extra break. Has anyone heard of that before? I think I understood correctly. Right now they are saying my skin looks really good, knowing it's all relative.
-
Hi Wino, I used pure aloe gel and aquafor. I did this at least 2x a day. Also used gel pads to help pull out the heat.
I was given calendula but didn't use, until the last tx.
I wish I would have used calendula all along because it's working really well. I finished 4-days ago and had blisters, swelling, burns and peeling. The calendula is helping my skin heal. Most areas are down to just red. The nipple area is cracking/blisters and painful but the calendula is soothing.
I have also used lidocaine gel (Rx) to help numb areas.
Good luck, you're gonna be done before you know it!

So I'm freaking out just a bit here. Got my first EOB from Blue Cross yesterday. Looks like I owe $2,967 for JUST the simulation and first week of treatments! WTF??? My two surgeries and every other test under the sun that I had for DX wasn't that much all together! I can't tell from the EOB how much my copay is for each treatment, but with 5+ weeks to pay for on top of that--we're going to be even more broke that we are now (if that's possible)!!! Anybody else have sticker shock yet with their treatments? I seriously thought of not finishing when I saw that amount yesterday. I honestly don't know what to do now. I'm not telling my daughter she can't go back to college next year because of this stupid disease. We have good insurance, is something wrong here?
