I feel weirdly relieved

I was just diagnosed today. I have been afraid of getting cancer my entire life and I guess always assumed it would get me at some point. So after the phone call I felt oddly relieved. As if the other shoe has finally dropped. I feel relaxed and almost peaceful. Am I a super weirdo? Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, is it temporary

Hi ChristaSea. First of all we want to warmly welcome you to Breastcancer.org. We're sorry for the reason that brings you here... but we hope you find this to be a place of support and helpful information!

After you are diagnosed with cancer, you may feel many many different and understandable feelings... and each person will handle them in a different way, and we're sure that other members will come along to posts with similar experiences than yours soon. You're not alone!

We wish you all the best with your further tests and hope your treatment goes well.

I haven't been diagnosed yet and I'm waiting for my results, but I completely understand how you feel. If I am diagnosed the relief for me will be to finally know what was wrong with me. I've had night sweats, pain in breast from time to time, elevated white count for years and fatigue. Don't get me wrong, I'll be extremely happy to be benign, but that also means back to the drawing board to figure out what the issue really is.

I'm sorry that you have to deal with BC...but at least you know what your fighting and fighting for. Prayers for you to win!

I can't say I felt relieved because I was convinced by the radiologist and my husband I did NOT have cancer. But I did have a chuckle when my sister gave me props for being the one person she knew who complained to her doctor and HAD something. Kind of like on behalf of women everywhere who complain to their doctor and are dismissed and now vindicated?

We are overwhelmed with complex emotions during the dx, tx, and recovery. Still have PTSD issues, myself. Don't judge your feelings or even think they are "weird". BC is a weird place to live in temporarily.... for sure.

I was not relieved but I was not surprised. As I got older, it seemed everybody around me had it and I felt like I was in a lottery I didnt' want to be in. So, when I found out, I really wasn't surprised.
