edited March 2015 in Waiting for Test Results

I went for my annual mammogram, though I must confess I had waited five years since last one, and I was called to come back for 2nd mammo and ultrasound. The 2nd mammo and ultrasound found a solid 8mm mass w/ indistinct borders; lymph nodes normal. Was assigned a BIRAD of 4b.

I then had an ultrasound guided biopsy and should hear back tomorrow or the next day regarding malignancy or benign. My radiologist said: This can absolutely come back as benign, so do not worry yourself. Well, I've been all over the map throughout this. I'm 49, healthy, no family breast cancer, though I know that doesn't mean anything. In my head, I go through all the stages of denial, not to mention all the stages of cancer! One minute I can't possibly have cancer, the next I've got Stage 4! Talk about a hot mess!

I've read a lot to see what I may be facing and found you very kind ladies. Like others, I'm worried, but still hopeful. The biopsy process wasn't terrible, though sore afterward, which is to be expected.

Anyway, I will hope for good news for myself, but also for all of you also waiting and anxious.

Thank you for the opportunity to vent! I'll post results when I know them...

    Cmo65,

I'll be sending good thoughts and prayers your way!

I had a BIRAD 4, lymph nodes fine after my core needle this week on Tuesday. Got the call Friday. BENIGN. :) Try to stay busy, hopeful, and I prayed a lot and asked a lot of others to pray or send good thoughts my way - that helped give me some comfort. Also knowing all the strength of the women on here and all they have overcome - gave me peace.

Hang in there and let us know when you hear something! :)

Hugs & Love & Prayers headed your way! :)

Cmo65, welcome to Breastcancer.org. We're sorry that you have to be here for this worry, but glad you found us!

The waiting is horrible so if you can, get out, take a walk, get exercise and air, and take good care of yourself till you have your (hopefully benign) results! You're not alone.

    Thinking of you,

    Ladies:

I got my results back.  Unfortunately, I got some bad news.  My doctor just called to tell me that my biopsy came back malignant.  They said it is invasive ductal carcinoma, Grade 1.  Estrogen, progesterone and HER2 positive.

That's all I know right now.  I guess the next step is surgery.

    Dear cmo

So sorry that you've joined us. There isn't much to know from the biopsy report other than the malignancy and stage 1. That's good--means it's slow growing. Also the fact youare triple positive is good news in that there are lots of therapies for you. Please keep us up to date.

cmo, sorry to hear your news. I'm sure you are reeling. There are many multi-disciplinary clinics/cancer centers that offer an "all in one" concept, where they have a nurse navigator, counseling, radiation, oncology, surgery, chemo, etc. Talking to a nurse navigator might be a good place to start. The nurse can guide you on what to expect next and help you set up appts. with Medical oncologist and Breast Surgeon.I would stay away from Dr Google! Take care of yourself, breathe, take one step at a time. You can do this! ((HUGS))
