mqt64, Yahoo!!!! I'm so happy for you!
Long journey and you deserve a relaxing evening.๐ท๐ท
Good health to you. ๐

Congrats to all who are done or near done!! You are inspirational to those of us in the middle of it. As of today I'm one third of the way done -- halfway there next Wednesday. Skin is pink and I'm not feeling more tired than usual on Friday afternoon after working all week. They are doing more CAT scans on me next week to prepare for boosts -- 4 I think after 16 regular. So nice to be able to cross off each day -- and yes -- I can hardly wait to be able to put on deodorant!
-
Quiggy ~ sorry that I jumped the gun.ย Monday will be the grand day then!
mqt64 ~ Congrats to you.ย A great weekend is just waiting to happen!
DaisyQ ~ I'm glad to hear that you started the Spring Rads Topic.ย This has been a really valuable site for all of us.ย BC.Org is really quite wonderful for those of us who find us in this situation. Thank You out there!ย
Keeping the list was as much for me as for you all.ย It has helped me feel really close to you - like family.ย I think that the chronology helps us see who our running mates are.ย
Enjoy the weekend!

Happy Friday to everyone! I have finished 9 of 20 rads - so if I do my math right I am 45% done. I too can hardly wait to get back to deodorant. I want to tell the techs to not get too close but I'm sure they are so use to that. I was worried about not being able to shave but seems like the radiation is acting like No No on steroids - not a hair has sprouted since starting - so there is one plus of all this. Slightly red and a bit tired but still not too bad.
Have a great weekend ladies
-
Mqt, congratulations!
I finished my 25th regular rads today. Moving on to boosts on Monday. Two weeks of those and I'm done. I've got a sun tan developing and I'm sore but otherwise okay so far.
-
Congrats mqt64!
-
what a day yesterday! My RO gave me two days off so that I could go to Rochester, NY for a business trip. The catch was that I promised to be back on Friday. Well my flight Thursday evening was canceled, I re-booked for Friday morning, and that flight was canceled as well. Long story short, I had to drive 6 hours from ROC to BOS in a rental car, then drive to my rads treatment in Cambridge. So I think I win the prize for longest drive to rads yesterday.- total of 7 hours.
Started my boosts yesterday. 7 treatments left. Skin under my arm is peeling some. I've been putting Aquafor on it with a Vaseline gauze bandage that they gave me, and a pad to cover the whole thing. It is helping. Unfortunately, boosts are right in the spot where the skin is the worst
-
Sjacobs146. Wow! When you make a commitment, you really keep it. The weather has certainly made it challenging in the northeast to keep appointments.
Nice to have updates and see that many people are moving along pretty well.
-
Sjacobs 146, you definitely win the prize! Just managing to work all the way through should win you one too. Good luck with your last 7. My ro recommended Hydrocortisone otc and I found some with aloe. It helped a lot. You can put it on under the aquafor (jelly over peanut butter) or separate them. I found it really soothing and not as goopy as the aquafor.
-
The deodorant issue is interesting to me because part of my Rads instructions before beginning was to switch to a formula without the aluminum (chlorhydrate?) component. I was given some options and told to look for the pink breast cancer ribbon on the product. I chose Crystal...a solid clear stick that I run under water before using. It has worked well and I'm still using it, though my rads were finished 8 days ago. I was very happy to use a razor after almost 7 weeks!
The boosts were hard on my surgical site and I was given Silvadene ( spelling?) and Telfa pads to use but had an immediate allergic burning reaction so I was given several samples of Miaderm, but told to go back to Aquaphor when the Miaderm runs out. I've used Aquaphor twice a day from Day 1 and I'm back on it. It is messy, but effective. My dark tan skin is beginning to slough off and each day I'm just a little less tender. Recheck with the RO the end of next week. I saw comments about gifts for the techs.....I have wanted to do something, my techs made treatment so easy and I did have a tiny bit of withdrawal from my 11:45 habit, but I was pretty sore and a little thankful for the recovery time!
-
I have to say that so far the rads have not been so bad. I am not experiencing any more fatigue than I had before (much, much worse with chemo). I have some skin issues, but manageable so far. I'm bracing myself for the boosts, hopefully being proactive with the skin care will help
-
Super news mqt64 enjoy you dinner and glass of wine!
I am loosing my voice woke up hoarse this morning.ย It's weird I don't feel sick or anything just hoarse.ย It seems I remember reading on here that one of you also lost your voice after radiation, I'm curious if it came back and what the doctor said about it?
-
To: WheelyGirl: I'm the one who has lost her voice after rads started.
-
dacre - Is it getting better?ย What do the doctors say?
-
Hi rads ladies, I have 4 boosts left to finish. So far, it's quite a ride to say the least. The rash is very itchy, and I have it on my back as well. I just hope that the boosts leave my mx scar intact. I have swelling also, anyone have that from the rads? My scar looks like it is puckering a bit too. It was smooth. Any ideas?
-
I have implants now and am trying to decide between a lumpectomy or a double MX (for symmetry). I am a candidate for a lumpectomy but am really scared of what radiation does to implants.....both immediately and later. Any thoughts on that?
-
Beachbum1023, I started with swelling after boost #1. They target the tumor bed, which is just above the nipple. My poor scar and nipple are not happy at all. More red, swelling and skin cracking around the nipple. It's painful and any clothing is uncomfortable.
My RO said it will do this for a few weeks before easing off. SUCKS!!!
So, guess you and I will have to grit our teeth a little longer. At least when RADs stop, it won't add to the burns.
I'm trying to focus on a better life in April! Maybe a Vegas get-a-way.
Stay strong sister!!!
-
mysunshine, I can't help you with that one, but have you tried any of the other threads to see what you can find there? Maybe look at the recon or implant thread. Good Luck!
-
WheelyGirl. I didn't lose my voice but I had a dry hacky cough and sounded a bit hoarse. About a week after my last treatment, I noticed it was gone. My RO said if I had a cough two months after rads, she would give me some kind of steroids, but usually it goes away on its own. And it did. Still I would report the change to your RO or nurse.

I found out yesterday that I will not be getting any tattoos they just want me to keep the markings day to day.ย I asked about putting aloe and such on the area and she said I really don't need to but if I do keep it away from the markings because it will wipe them off.ย Well that would be nearly impossible since my breast looks like a road map.ย The techs are really nice and even told me I could have as much wine as I wanted when I asked them about drinking a glass when we went out for dinner with friends.ย I told her that was probably not the smartest thing she could have told me at this point in time and I did have 4 (restaurant servings size) glasses which is probably equivalent to 2 actual glasses.ย
-
Wheelygirl, I had asked about drinking, and I was told that I could have two. So I opted for a bottle of white, and a bottle of red! That's 2!
My markings stay on pretty well, but they made a template in case anything does wear off. They just touch them up from time to time.
-
Beachbum102 - are you using any kind of lotion? If so has it affected your marks at all?
-
Beachbum, I had definite swelling with the boosts. The boob looks kinda strange right now. Or still? ? The incision area survived ok but it is swollen.
Wheelygirl, is there a reason they don't do tattoos? I had them. They're tiny. And I didn't have to worry about creams or showers. I wish I knew why some places use them and not others. It's worth at least asking the question.
-
Hi Ladies, I am allowed to use 100% clear Aloe gel, Hydrocortisone cream, and Aquaphor. They seem to frown on anything else. I did get 4 tiny tattoos at the sim set up. Just another life time reminder of rads! They also make templates in case the marks rub off. I find it rather hilarious that they use Sharpie markers. I feel like a science project model. Just like a grade school volcano, but I do blow up some days!
Since I had a mastectomy, the chest area and scars are swelling, so not too attractive right now! The skin is pretty tight, and I have issues with shoulder mobility. Just when it was really good and back to normal from surgery. So back to the exercises. I thought the rads would be easier, not!
-
mqt64 - I am not sure why they do not do tattoos but I will ask them next week.ย I read somewhere online that some facilities do not do tattoos because they did a study of a number of women and determined that like 80% of the womenย in the study who received tattoosย had a more difficult time feeling good about their bodies because it was a constant reminder of the breast cancer and treatment and women who did not receive tattoos felt better about their bodies and were able to move past the treatment more quickly.ย That makes sense to me but then I read another study that said kind of the opposite that women who received the tattoos viewed them sort of as a trophy of all they went through and survived which makes sense too so I am not sure why some centers do and some don't.ย I personally do not think the tattoos would bother me later on and seems like it would make treatment a little easier.ย I love to take a hot bath always makes me feel better when I am not feeling well but no hot baths right now because of the marks.
-
WheelyGirl, same here. I got one tiny tattoo at my simulation, but that's the only one I'm getting, as it turns out. My breast also looks like a roadmap! On my set-up day, the techs gave me a whole new, and more numerous, collection of marks and stickers, and yes, I'm supposed to apply moisturizer around the marks, being careful not to rub them off. I was told, though, that they would just give me new ones if that does happen. I will ask next week why only 1 tattoo, when some places do lots. I'm curious, too, and if I had my choice, I think I'd take the tattoos. I'm supposed to use Miaderm 2-3 times a day. It feels very nice on the skin, and isn't messy. I'm just going around all the road marks, and so far they have stayed on pretty well. I was all ready for the messy Aquaphor but I do like this stuff I'm using. I have not given up my glass (or two) of wine, but I'm doing my best to eat healthful foods and exercise; maybe that will cancel out the wine!
I've done 3 of 19, the last 4 to be boosts. So that's what, about one-sixth? No real effects of any kind yet that I can see, but I know it's early days. I asked about the boosts, if I should expect them to be harder on my skin than the regular ones, and I was told that it's really not that the boosts are stronger or harsher. It's the same amount of "grays" but just focused on a much smaller area. The explanation was that because the boosts are given at the end of treatment, that's usually the time when the maximum side effects would be kicking in, so it's that cumulative exposure that sometimes seems to make things worse, not really the boosts particularly. Not sure if I'm buying that, but that's what I was told.
I hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend and three cheers for all of you courageous, strong women!

My giant MX scar is reminder enough of BC, so I really couldn't care less about 5 tiny tattoo dots.
They just blend in with my other freckles and moles, basically.
-
Cassiecat-That's exactly how I feel and if they make things a little easier I am all for it.
-
You'd need eyes in the back of your head to see the tattoos round the side so only one teeny weeny one on the breastbone can be seen. Taking it that you have to be careful of sunlight for evermore I cannot think that this tattoo is likely to be exposed that often. I cannot believe that anyone would feel bad about it taking it that they have a scar anyway which is reminder enough of bc.
-
Agree that tattoos are no big deal - I'm 55 and have difficulty finding them even with my reading glasses. Add the freckles and moles, what a fun party game! Find Linda's tattoos
