edited March 2015 in Male Breast Cancer

I was diagnosed in March 2012 after having a post-deployment physical at a military hospital in Virginia. Had a mastectomy on 4 April 2012. Remove the tissue of the left breast (to include the nipple). Endured 4 months of chemotherapy and started taking Tamoxifen in August 2012. Coming up on three years anniversary of the mastectomy. So far, I am cancer free.

I am glad that I have found a site that the men can come together and share their experience. For those who was recently diagnosed, hang in there. I am also here to provide advice and share more of my story. For those who has endured some of the same issues that I have, I am willing to talk to them as well. We need a support group, someone that understand what it is like to have a disease that it often know as a "woman's disease."

    Maddog1996-

Welcome to BCO! We're so glad you've found us, and that you're so willing to share your experiences as a male breast cancer survivor with other men. It's hard to find other men to connect to, and your presence here will be invaluable to our other members.

Please let us know if we can be of any help!

Hi MADDOG, just wanted to say welcome! There are a few men who post here, but there are also women, who will be interested in your experience. We have seen the wives and partners of men who have been Dx come here to find information from other men who understand.

    Good to see you here!

Maddog- Sorry you have had to go through this. It gives me hope that you are three years out now! I don't see your dx info so I hope that your BC was found at an early stage. Sad to say with a lot of men it is not found till it has advanced. My husband is just a little over a year from when diagnosed and is currently on Anastrozole so we're watching for side effects and hoping that things go well. Have you had any problems with lymphedema or did you not have any nodes removed? As yet my husband has not had any problems but it is something I worry about as I would hate him not to be able to do the things he likes to do and I fear it might affect that.

MADDOG1996 - Thank You for your service, I appreciate your sacrifice. Congratulations for remaining cancer free. I do hope you connect to others here on the boards. The support is so helpful, and really makes a difference. Positive attitudes will definitely serve us well. Are you still active? I have 2 stepsons that are still in, 1 Army, and 1 Marine. We do have a thread started for chemo starting in March, perhaps you could drop in and share some positive thoughts and encouragement for them. Always great to hear that we can win the battles along the way.

Thank You, God Bless the Red, White, and Blue! Cheryl
